Top 5 Horror Games for Halloween Continued
Hello Fellow STEEMITS!
There was a time when Electronic Arts (EA) was willing to create new and interesting games. However, in recent years, they have started to make sequels and milk off of them till they are ran dry. Regardless, they still made a great horror game that everyone should play.
#4 Dead Space
Developers: EA Redwood Shore (Now Visceral Games)
Publisher: Electronics Art
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, PC (Steam, Origin, GoG.com)
Release Date: Oct 20th, 2008
It is year 2508 and you play as Isaac Clarke an engineer who specializes in ship repairs. Isaac works for Concordance Extraction Corporation. A corporation that goes to other planets and extracts their resources to bring back to Earth. Isaac volunteers be part of the emergency team on the shuttle USG Kellion after C.E.C receives a distress call from the USG Ishimura. Isaac is accompanied with Kendra Daniels, a technologist specialist. Zach Hammond, he is the senior security officer aboard the Kellion. The last two members of the Kellion are two more security officers named Chen and Johnston. Isaac volunteered for a more personal reason. He wishes to find his girlfriend, Nicole Brennan, who is stationed on the Ishimura as a medical specialist.
The Kellion arrives on the outskirts of the planet Aegis VII and finds the Ishimura has no lights on and no one is replying to their hails. The team boards the Ishimura and finds that aliens called the "Necromorphs" have found their way onto the Ishimura and killed majority of the residents on the ship. Isaac and the player will travel around the ship while they try to figure out what is happening. The walls of the ship is drenched with bodies and blood from all the victims the "Necromorphs" have slain. "Necromorphs" lurk around every corner and in every vent waiting for someone to pass by. Majority of the survivors Isaac comes across are insane, either talking to themselves or trying to talk to a dead resident. Isaac will find recordings throughout the ship that explains what happens and learn that his colleagues are not who they appear.

The game is played from a third person over the shoulder perspective. As an engineer, Isaac has the ability to make guns and modify them during this tragic event. Majority of the weapons that he can make have some type of alternative fire mode to take advantage of. The player can have up to four weapons equipped at a time and a inventory for everything else. The suit Isaac wears allows the player to have a inventory that can hold many different types of items ranging from medicine, ammo, guns, and stasis recharge. Along with the inventory, Isaac's suit gives him the ability to use telekinesis type powers, called Stasis. Isaac uses these abilities to slow his environment and shoot objects at his target. The "Necromorphs" are terrifying enemies because they cannot be killed aiming at their torsos. "Necromorphs" will take the punishment and run at their target with unrelenting speed and force. In order to kill "Necromorphs" the player must aim for the limbs and dismantle them until they stop moving. Number one rule of Dead Space, double tap! Just because a "Necromorph" falls over dead doesn't mean it is! The player has the ability to stomp on anything on the ground and dismantle them. If a "Necromorph" manages to kill Isaac, enjoy the many kill animations that the developers put in.
Since the game was made in 2008, the graphics are okay and may look bad for some. Like always, the PC has the superior graphics. The soundtrack fits the game perfectly. The soundtrack reminds me of the old Aliens movie soundtrack. The video above this text has the official Dead Space soundtrack. The ambiance does a good job building up tension for the player as they explore the ship. The animations is great and have been shown great care and detail.
