Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Glitch Lets Link Walk Underwater! Reveals Potential Nintendo Plans!

in #gaming7 years ago

Nintendo's The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is amazing. A near perfect title that has changed the formula, and is almost-flawless in execution. But, that didn't stop players from trying to break the game. For a while, the only glitches found were the mysterious ice cream in inventory glitch which placed a soft-serve icon in your food slots. But, nothing major or particularly funny. That was until player Swiffy22 was fighting a gigantic rock monster and was knocked under the water! Soon enough the player realized he was walking underwater!!!

Even more interesting is the fact that from the video, we can see that Nintendo added water physics to the game! Link jumps higher while underwater than he does when he is above-ground. This could potentially mean that at one point during development Nintendo planned for there to be underwater levels as there has been in most previous 3D Zelda iteration! In fact, it wouldn't be farfetched to say that they probably stopped because of the scope of the map would have made designing a whole underwater map incredibly difficult. Zelda: Breath of the Wild is already the largest game made directly by Nintendo, the only other title with such a scope is the Wii U's own Xenoblade Chronicles X.

But, the potential would have been there and this glitch is very revealing! It is worth noting that most of the time, the underwater levels have proved to be the least popular parts of most Zelda games. Confusing and maze-like, they are usually the point when players realize they need some help beating the stage. The only sad part about missing out on this is the potential that swimming in the ocean has with the Zora Suit. In The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, the Zora Suit allowed for an extreme amount of mobility while underwater, and was always fun to mess around with the mechanics. But, in Breath of the Wild it only allows you to swim faster, and go up waterfalls. Which is a real disappointment when we think about it...
