Do you mean the time at the top of the screen? (Time 200) If the timer at the top reaches ) your character will die.
SMW = Super Mario World
Kaizo is a hack created by T. Takemoto. Its a redesigned world of Super Mario World with extreme difficulty. I am playing Super Mario World but Kaizo edition =)
Edit: If the timer reaches 0 your character will die
