Gaming Matters - Civilization VI: Rise and Fall is out!
Hey Steemians, Civilization VI: Rise and Fall is released today! I have bought it from Steam and it is being downloaded as I am writing this post. For those who don't know (how can you not know?!?), the Civilization series is a popular franchise in the 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) strategy game genre. Basically, you build your civilization from scratch and try to defeat your opponents along the way. I have played the Civilization series since Civ II till Civ VI and Civ VI is arguably my favorite till date. I have clocked 190 hours in playing the game 😅.
Civilization VI: Rise and Fall is the expansion to the base Civilization VI game and it has brought in several new concepts that was not found in the base game. Here are the list of new features:
- Golden and Dark ages: Golden age is not a new concept as it existed in previous Civilization games. But dark age is something new and I am looking forward to that.
- City loyalty: This is a concept similar to past Civilization games where it allowed for cultural flipping of neighboring cities if your city culture is much stronger than the neighboring cities. I guess they replaced culture with loyalty.
- Governors: Throughout the game, governors can be recruited and they can bring bonuses to assigned cities. Interesting!
- More complex alliance types: In the base game, alliance with another Civilization doesn't really affect much of the gameplay. In this expansion, there are more types of alliances and I think it is going to influence the gameplay much more.
- Emergency scenarios: Through the game, there will be emergency situations triggered when certain criteria are met. Players will need to respond to such emergencies and the outcome will influence the dynamics of the game.
- And of course, new civilizations and new leaders!
Below is a video which gives a broad overview of the new features:
I get most of my information from this official announcement:

And you can also watch the official announcement trailer below:
I can't wait to start playing this game! If you see me disappear from Steemit for a few days, I guess you know what happened 😜. Comment below if you are also Civilization fan, let me know if you will be buying the Rise and Fall expansion.
Absolutely forgot that it came out today! I received Civ 6 from a friend who bought the humble bundle monthly. I've been smashing out a lot of hours on it, just like the time I was playing Civ 5.
I'm tempted to get it, especially with more elements in the game. Hopefully there's more to the AI as well.
What's your favourite civilisation to play as?
I think the AI is constantly being improved throughout the various patches. I do not have a favorite Civilization and I try to do at least 1 playthrough for each Civ/Leader. So far, I do think that Rome is pretty darn strong with great flexibility.
What's yours?
Definitely improving, but can always be better. Thought there might be something more with the new expansion coming out.
I have to agree with Rome! I'm the type that sticks with my first pick - it's pretty intuitive because I always find something that matches my play style (in any game) at the very start, so I don't deviate further than that. I like rushing science and money, so Rome's ability to have roads as well as trading posts is useful.
One of the other civilizations I enjoy is Norway! There's no other Civs that have caught my eye, though.
Haha.. I also like to rush for science and gold. I will expand by waging wars with a couple of neighboring Civs once I am ahead in tech. Then it is back to rushing science again. Usually I will end up with a Science victory.
Similar tactics, aye.
I tend to do a domination victory before I even touch Science victories. I've never done a religion victory, to be hoenst.
It is not easy to achieve a religion victory. I got it once by playing as Spain in a tiny map. Haha..
no time for games... when PC idle, let it mine Smartcash.. haha
Haha.. there is always time for some fun!

Nice man! But Civilisation is not my cup of tea. I'm waiting for Total War: Three Kingdoms. That would be a blast as I am a Total War fan. Upvoted!
Haha.. I am waiting for that too! But will have to wait at least half a year for that to be released.
