My Nintendo 64 Collection (N64)

in #gaming8 years ago (edited)
The N64 was the third console to be added to my collection in December, 1998. Easily the most nostalgia inducing retroware in my collection, it also stands the test of time better the most consoles of the era. Because I am a member of a bigger family, it was essential to get the console with the most controllers. Each controller was paired with a rumble pack, made the whole bundle too expensive to buy new, so refurbished was the only economic way.

I have a Red, Yellow, Grey, and Green controller, although I was only able to find 2 of them during the time of this post. Each controller has a rumble pack, but I figured showing one does just as good a job as all of them. The thing next to it is a memory card. Yes, the console did have memory cards despite the games having carts with flash memory for saves. I still find this dual save feature confusing, but why yell at a flower? The upgradable ram that came with Starfox 64 has already been installed as well.
I still feel like a fool for throwing away all the boxes and manuals on christmas, but its not like I ever planned on selling them, and those boxes take up a decent amount of space considering how many games I have. Also, the majority of the games I have were given to me in one haul, with a couple of newer ones bought near the ending of the N64's life cycle.

Overall I feel pretty lucky to have had this collection as a kid. My parents weren't the game pushing type and I didn't come from riches. A deal landed in my parents lap, and it was just convenient enough for them to accept it. This console really sculpted my later childhood, and if I had to buy everything over again I don't think I could justify the astronomic price everything has become. Mario 64 is still my favorite game of all time, let it be known.
