Get Ready For Nintendos Gold Rush!

Move aside, I need to get Super Meat Boy ASAP!

The greatest sales-pitch for games in the Nintendo Switch eShop has been, for quite some while, limited. You own a Switch, so of course you want games to play on it. So why not buy Shovel Knight for the third time? Or why not try a game you've never heard about, but looks kind of cozy and holds a small price tag. It's hard to get something you really want when there's only like 12-13 games to choose from...

With the combination of an limited gaming supply, the increasing demand and ownership of the Switch, combined with the fans need to play something, resulted in the first games on the Nintendo eShop selling almost rudely well. Considering the successes of independent game developers producing games for the Switch during the first few months, it was only a matter of time before the gold-rush would hit full gear. Now, almost 6 months after the Switch was released, the goldrush seems to have begun.

I wonder how many would have played Kamiko if it would have been released on the Xbox One instead of the Switch.

The Best Golden Nuggets

The amount of downloadable games that have been confirmed for the Nintendo Switch is - at this time - to many to fit into one steemit article, but let's go trough the titles that stick out from the fold a bit extra.

  • Thimbleweed Park, Ron Gilberts X-Files-inspired point and click adventure game, will probably be released to the Nintendo eShop in September.

  • Super Meat Boy, Team Meats at this time classic indie platformer, becomes seven years of age this year. The age of the game, however, does not seem to have dampened fans' enthusiasm for the Switch version that was revealed this week.

  • Many of the first games to be released on Switch eShop were portings of games originally released to the Neo Geo portable console, and more are on its way. Magician Lord, Puzzled, Zed Blade, Raguy / Blue's Journey, Spinmaster and Art of Fighting are coming soon.

  • Capcom seems to have some sort of policy that all Resident Evil games should be released to at least three consoles, so it's no surprise that Resident Evil Revelations, Revelations 2 and Resident Evil Biohazard comes to the Switch eShop later this year. They are also released in physical formats as a bundle.

  • The murder mystery The Sexy Brutale looked a little interesting when released to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 at the beginning of the summer. It's coming to the Switch soon so keep you eyes open.

  • The platformshooter Morphite, which, according to the developers, is inspired by Ratchet & Clank, Metroid Prime and Turok (!), Is released to both Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 7th.

  • Developers of the above-mentioned Kamiko, Circle Entertainment, follow up the game's Switch Success with Picontier - a roleplaying title that seems to combine the Stardew Valley game mechanics with the graphic style of the early Pokémon games. If you do not think it sounds interesting, we may not be friends anymore.

  • Stardew Valley will also be released to Switch eShop sometime in 2017. I have already been playing this game for several hours on PC, but I would like a portable version.

  • Yooka-Laylee, the Banjo-Kazooie-inspired 3D platformer, developed by former Rare employees, is also on its way to Switch eShop. It is supposed to be released before the end of the year.

  • Crazy Monkey Studios said many years ago they planned to port Guns, Gore & Cannoli, to Wii U, but the years passed without the game being released. Just recently, they revealed that the game will now be released on Switch eShop instead.
Hopefully, it will not be as long before launch.

  • The Swedish Steam developed world, which became a minor sensation when it was released for Nintendo 3DS in 2013, and now the sequel SteamWorld Dig 2 is on its way to the PlayStation 4, PC and - of course - Nintendo Switch. The last thing we heard was that it is scheduled to be released in autumn 2017.

  • Rocket League has long been one of the most sought after indie games for Nintendo Switch, and on E3 2017, Nintendo and Psyonix gave the message that many had been waiting for: Rocket League comes to Switch eShop. It will be released sometime during the fourth quarter of 2017.

  • Minecraft climbed straight up to the Switch eShop sales list's first place when released earlier this year, and now its 2D counterpart, Terraria, is also on its way to the platform. It is expected to be released before the end of the year.

  • Game publisher Microids threw their name in the magic Switch-hat at the beginning of the summer, and it did so in grand style: They plan to release six games to the Nintendo eShop for the next two years. The games are Syberia 1, 2 and 3, Gear.Club racing game, the action game Flashback - Remastered Edition that was released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2013, and the noir adventure game Blacksad based on the comic of the same name.

  • The Japanese role-playing studio Tokyo RPG Factory will be launching the game I Am Setsuma with Lost Sphear to the Switch, which looks like a Final Fantasy 1-6 inspired title. It's about a boy named Kanata trying to prevent his hometown from mysteriously disappearing.
