Top 5 Most Expensive Virtual Items Sold

in #gaming9 years ago (edited)

We live in a time where people pay huge amounts of money for virtual items. Solely by grinding a game and getting a very rare item could make you bank and if you haven't encountered virtual game sales in the past, it could be a missed opportunity. Basically selling some pixels could turn out to be outrageously profitable. So here's the top 5 most expensive virtual items sold.

5) The Unique Green Atrox Queen Egg (Game: Entropia Universe)

The Unique Green Atrox Queen Egg is considered extremely rare in Entropia Universe. It was purchased in 2010 for an amazing sum of $70,000. The egg itself came out in 2006 and was rumored to hatch something the game has never seen before. Just as rumored, the egg hatched and a really powerful dragon was born into the game, spreading its kind all over the game world.

4) The Moon (Game: Entropia Universe)

The Moon was bought for $150,000 by a group of investors. They later on came to a deal with the game developers to split all profits generated from the Moon. The group of investors could shape it any way they desired, with the developer permission, of course.

3) Crystal Palace Space Station (Game: Entropia Universe)

Crystal Palace Space Station was sold for a whopping $330,000. It was a strategic purchase, as the owner gains income from players who do transactions there. The station even has some inhabitants which players come to hunt.

2) Club Neverdie (Game: Entropia Universe)

Club Neverdie is an orbiting asteroid named by the same player who purchased the green egg. The asteroid was crafted into a space resort, which included a stadium, a shopping center and biodomes. Later on, the owner sold the resort for a crazy amount of $635,000.

1) Planet Calypso (Game: Entropia Universe)

The planet came online in 2003 and has over 950,000 registered users. This was registered as the most expensive virtual items trade ever. It was bought by SEE Virtual Worlds for an extraordinary amount of $6,000,000.

I'm sure those who haven't known about these sales are in total shock when seeing the money paid for just some pixels. As you can see, all of these sales were conducted in the Entropia Universe world. Some of those purchases generate a lot of money for the owners up until now, so you could call it an unusual investment.

Thank you for reading and share your thoughts! Have you ever sold a virtual item? How much did you sell it for?

Some extraordinary amounts for sure.

I heard a lot about Entropia Universe. It is a game or people invest a lot of money but make a big profit too. This is a niche market with a lot of rich people on it. I will follow you because I am a gamer and I like the news like this one. Thank you very much, good job
