The Talos Principle Review

in #gaming8 years ago (edited)

Who doesn't love a cerebral puzzler? Especially one with over 120 unique puzzles, an ethereal soundtrack, and a mind-blowing philosophical plot!

The game takes its name from a giant bronze automaton with a single vein of ichor that ran from his neck to his ankle, held shut only by a single bronze nail, that protected Europa in Greek mythology.

You play as a character similar to the robot Sonny in I, Robot; an android with a debatable case for seemingly-human level intelligence. Humanity has died out from a lethal virus that had been kept stored in the arctic, but was released as a consequence of global warming.

Upon entering the world you hear a voice that names itself as Elohim, welcoming you to explore his Garden of Worlds, so long as you stay away from "The Tower".

While exploring his Garden of Worlds and staying away from the tower you find, among other things, audio messages left by Alexandra Drennan (excellently voiced by Erin Fitzgerald), an engineer who started and led a project to preserve the collected knowledge of mankind before they were wiped out in the hopes that some other intelligent species would be able to find it and make use of it. An artificial intelligence named Milton was created and left within the archive as a library assistant. Although his data has since been corrupted he will engage in branching philosophical dialogue with the player, and can play different roles in the story depending on your choices.

All in all, this is an amazing first person 3D puzzle game with some of the best gameplay I've seen in the genre. A fun, engaging, visually appealing look at epistemology and what it means to be a person, The Talos Principle is available on steam right now for only $9.99 (Normally $39.99)
