Hey there, I’m Tate (aka captenredbeard). This is another installment for the 'Rift Life' blog series, the landing page can be found HERE.
Today I'll be going off topic a bit... but not too far off, since I'll be discussing Mechs & Minions. What is that, you ask? Oddly enough, even fans of League of Legends don't know about this game. Mechs & Minions (from here forth known as M&M) is a board game designed and sold by Riot Games (the same developer of League of Legends) in their merchandise store.
M&M disappeared for a while after it's initial release due to RIot doing a limited release (wave 1). Luckily for me (since I learned of its' existence after wave 1 sold out) they started a wave 2 sometime last year. Which turned out to be great timing, since at that time I had just started to get super excited about board games. Tabletop games in general really. This game was fairly pricey from my viewpoint at a $75.00, but I figured it had some sentimental value since I'd been playing this game since the beginning.
I am so glad I did. This game is incredibly impressive as far as quality, style, mechanics...everything. Just take a look at this thing.
The game comes with minion miniatures, mechs, a timer, decks, dice, game boards,
The game consists of sealed envelopes that contain upcoming missions, new mech upgrades, new bosses, and a variety of other changes to the game. The general premise is to 'program' your mech with the upgrade cards which allows you to move around and deal damage to foes.
It's a basic game that has a lot of depth, even confusing at times, but in that really fun way that a great board game can be. I highly recommend it.
Let me know if you've played, have any questions, or want a lengthier review.
