Clicker Heroes 2

The beta for Clicker Heroes 2 was released yesterday and I decided late last night that I would buy it. It was $30 and I'm still a little shocked that I paid $30 for an idle game. We'll see if I get my monies worth out of it.

So far I'm very much enjoying playing an idle game that doesn't constantly beg me for money or force me to watch ads. The entire genre is based around the f2p model and not being accosted by the recurrent f2p tropes makes the game much more enjoyable.

Right now the game is in beta and subject to change. They even state that we will lose our progress at certain points during development. Still I'm playing and hopefully won't be too heartbroken when I lose my progress.

The game itself carries some similarities to the original Clicker Heroes. The graphics have a similar style and we still have a few of the same resources as well. We collect gold and rubies to buy upgrades and progress through the game. The skills are also fairly close to the original from what I remember but the usage of them is one of the new twists.

The game no longer has you recruiting multiple heroes but instead you are upgrading the gear on a single hero. I think that style works well with how the game has been laid out, where you are on a path slaying enemies moving towards the boss at the end of each stage.

There are few other changes as well, the ascension system has been replaced with changing worlds. You can replay old worlds or move onto new, harder ones after completion. There is also an automation system that allows you to program skill usage. The idea is you have a trigger linked to a skill, early in the game the triggers are simply cooldowns (ie. every 4 seconds use this skill).

In addition to all this, you now level up from obtaining xp and earn skill points which you can spend on the skill tree. The skill tree is very expansive and unlocks automation perks as well as general upgrades and new skills.

I'm really enjoying the game so far and who knows, I might even get my $30 worth!
