For the past several years at the San Diego Comic Con, Hasbro has released a Limited Edition Magic the Gathering set to drive fans and collectors bonkers. Anyone who has gone to SDCC knows that taking a piss at Con has a stupid line, let alone snagging one of the hottest Exclusives from one of the most insane booths on the Con floor. We have been lucky enough to snag sets at each of the Con’s thus far. Today I want to show you all the 2017 Magic Set.

First thing you’ll notice is how dumb and big this one is. Reason being is they included a sweet poster with it and the outer shopping box to protect it all is just massive. We have to ship these back to our shop in New Jersey all the way from San Diego. That sucks financially but we just shipped them as you see.

Let’s take a peek at the poster first. They did a nice job protecting it once again. It’s houses it a thick poster tube and it’s packed in there for war. The back of the poster (which is more of a thin cardboard rather than paper) is basically just the backs of the cards. Looks cool but nothing amazing. The actual print is pretty badass. It’s illustrated by artist Brandon Holt and was produced in collaboration with Mondo. It features Nicol Bolas and measures 24x36. Really sweet print!!

Onto the cards themselves. They come as they have in previous years sets, in a nice collectors box that opens up. Let’s peep these Foil shiny ass mofo’s!

Now I’m going to admit that as far as playability goes, I have no idea how these stack up. Talking Magic is like speaking an alien language. I’m dogshit when it boils down to it. I have never played Magic. I know I would like it I just know that I cannot take on another hobby. The business sucks enough time from me and I couldn’t even dream to get involved in a game like this as I know I’d have to be ALL IN....and life is not affording me that opportunity currently. So my question will be directed to the Magic guys that I know exist on here. So @slobberchops & @kommienezuspadt ...How are these cards?? Is this just more for the hard core collectors or are these awesome cards to play with??

Either way, the set initially cost $180 at the show. It hasn’t really taken off on the secondary market as they currently fetch between $200-$250 for the whole box set with the print.

Thanks for looking folks!!

They really are collectors items and rarely seen outside of the US. I personally have not come across any here as yet. They are not for playing with, more for hoarding and speculating I would think.

Ah. Gotcha. More of a cool thing to have vs. great cards to play with.
