The most addictive games i've ever played, could not put them down.
Everyone has a different favorite game they love and just can't seem to stop playing, some gamers spend thousands of hours playing to master a single game, the addiction becomes so strong you think about it when you're at work, when you're out with friends and pretty much 24/7.
So I put together a list of the games i've played that literally took over my life for whatever period of time it was i played them. For this list im going to leave out mobile games such as candy crush etc as they are often short lived fads, most of these are games i played over many years and would still pick up today.
Tibia
Tibia is probably one of the most addictive games i personally have ever played.
Released in 1997 it is one of the oldest MMORPG's around, back when i first started playing in the early 2000's it was a much better game than it is today. You view the game from overhead (like Pokemon on gameboy) and it has graphics that make Space Invader look good, but it had an amazing community and a limitless amount of things to do. A free to play game for anyone and if you were really interested you could purchase a premium account that gave you access to more quests, more cities and more hunting grounds.
Back when i was really into it reaching level 100 was a real achievement, you would have to grind through levels and hunt stronger creatures with a team of friends to get any sort of decent loot and experience. Unfortunately now unless you wish to pay for a premium account or "premmy" the game is pretty basic and boring, you're still able to play and hunt etc but certain spells, runes and places that are popular to the majority are off limit to you.
When you first start out on Tibia you began on a small island named "Rookgard" (which has now been changed to a slightly different island called Dawnport). From here you would hunt rats, bugs, snakes and any number of small creatures to gain exp and level up. As you became stronger and got better equipment you would move on to trolls, orcs and bears, once you reached level 8 you were free to leave Rook and head to the mainland where you would pick 1 of the 3 main cities to reside in as well as a vocation. The choices were, Knight(melee) Paladin (distance) Sorcerer(magic damage) or Druid(magic damage and healing). Once on the mainland or "main" you were free to both attack other players and be attacked by other players but chances are you would avoid that as a level 8.
The PvP system involved levels of skulls where a white skull means you attacked someone unprovoked and anyone else can attack you, a red skull means you had killed 3 people in a day and anyone could attack you plus you would lose your equipment, since the good old days they have also added black and yellow skulls for other reasons.
The game itself is a pretty basic MMORPG, however there is a massive amount of things to do including some quests that take upwards of 2 days to complete, you can hunt, train your skills, or create runes ( magic items used for attacking or healing) you can join guilds and partake in guild wars, the list goes on.
With so much to do and the amount of friends i made on this game i could not stop playing it for years, in fact i've been playing it for over a decade and still have 3-4 accounts i occasionally log into and kill someone with before forgetting about it for a few more months. This game has gone to shit in a way but it brings back some seriously good memories and nostalgia for me and is probably my favorite and most played game to date.
League of Legends, or LoL
What can i say about LoL, everyone's heard of it, its one of the most popular PC games around at the moment and it has a massive cult following with epic tournaments each "season"
In LoL there are 3 standard game types, Summoners rift (the most popular) Aram and usually one other that rotates through a variety of choices.
In Summoners rift there is a map with 3 "lanes" at either end of these is a nexus or base. 5 people on each team pick a champion and battle their way through lines of minions and the opposing team. As you move along each lane there are 3 turrets placed at intervals along that you need to destroy before you can get near the other teams nexus as well as some turrets within their base. The team that destroys the nexus first, wins. Pretty simple.
Each team is usually made up of a set of positions. Top lane will usually be a melee damage/tank character, mid lane will usually be a mage of some sort, bottom lane will be an ADC or attack damage carry and a support who's job is to keep the ADC alive and help them get strong fast and a jungle who stays in between the lanes and kills the creatures that spawn there while every so often "ganking" or invading a lane to help kill the opposition.
I have only been playing LoL for about a year now and am fairly terrible at it, but it is addictive as they come. For what starts out seeming such a basic game the more you play the more in depth it becomes as you learn each of the many characters build strengths, ability's and whom they play best against. There are more aspects to this game than the simple choosing of a character but i wont go into it here.
While the game itself is quite fun to play it is well known for having one of the most toxic communities in all of gaming, people tend to take it incredibly serious and insults and inter-team arguments are a common occurrence, all that aside i quite enjoy a game or two everyday but my interest is slowly dwindling and now i play more out of boredom than interest in the game itself, plus sometimes it is just good fun to piss off your team and watch some angry 16 yr old from halfway around the world raging out at you over their keyboard.
Call of duty black ops 1
Ah the COD franchise, arguably one of the most successful shooters in history and one of my favorites, while some of their games have been a bit hit and miss the original Black ops truly is my favorite and i still hop on sometimes and romp a few noobs.
Whilst probably not considered by most to be the best in the series black ops 1 was by far my favorite, i played it so much i knew every map off by heart, knew all the little tricks and spots to get massive kill-streaks and it was also the game that immortalized the Nuketown map one of the most popular maps in all of gaming history, a tiny map made of 2 houses and an absolute clusterfuck of grenades and rpg's mixed in with some duel-wield shotguns and a rapid fire smp's.
I played this game since its inception and loved every minute of it, for a solid 6 months when i was jobless and living with a friend we would spend most of our days playing this game non-stop. When we got bored of the multiplayer we would switch over to the infamous Nazi Zombies and mow down some Hitleresque braindead monsters.
ah yes good old Kino-der-toten, the most popular of the maps and the one you could play essentially forever if you were any good. I remember one night after playing for a solid 8 hours or so we had reached around level 60, me and my friend both exhausted decided to pause and continue our game in the morning, when we woke we discovered the power had gone out during the night and our progress ruined, so what did we do? Start again for another 8 hours.
This game brings back so many fond memories for me and the addictive power it had over me was second only to Tibia. It was the only game that could make me rage-out and throw stuff because "that's bullshit i shot him first" and the unmistakable thwump of noobtubes.
These 3 are the games that truly took over my life for the periods i played them, whilst only 3 of the many i have played there was just something about these that hooked me and wouldn't let me go.
Honorable mentions go to
Super Smash Bros (original)
Guitar Hero
Pokemon gold&silver
Mario-kart
GTA 4
Age of empires.
These all held my undivided attention at some point but the 3 i listed are games i have played since inception and still occasionally play to this day. Everyone has something that sucked them right in so let me know what games got you in the comments below.

Heya @bigdizzle91,
I got all excited when I saw this in your list. I've been playing League for 4 years, what do you main? I play support but can play all roles (except ADC), and my IGN is Shello. I try to play games when I'm taking breaks from school, but haven't gotten to do so lately, hopefully I can turn that around!
@shello
i love support, umm probably ashe or rammus, i used to love jg or adc but ive moved onto playing aram mostly now cos its faster paced and no one cares if u suck haha
For me its GTA 5 I play all the time but not as much since I found steemit. I wonder if there will be competition from Dtube for Twitch so that gamers can stream there twitch to dtube to monetize it even more. Now that I think of it how come Twitch isn't using cryptocurrency for their platform?
hopefully they will, there are a few "gaming" coins around but i dunno how well theyre developed yet.
I am a big WoW player.. I can get lost for hours in that!
