What are e-sports (electronic sports)?

in #gaming7 years ago

Greetings Steemit friends! I hope everyone is well. Yes, as you can see I have returned, I had not published anything for a couple of weeks, but I am already here :P. For today I have prepared a post with a theme not very well known in general speaking, but that still is taking force and getting appropriately known by the people, I am talking about e-sports, that is Electronic Sports, which maybe, do not require arduous physical works like soccer or basketball player, like most of the sports known today, however, they do require a great mental concentration and mechanical skill on the part of the gamers. I hope you enjoy the content I prepared!

First of all, what are e-sports?

E-sports are organized competitions between 2 or more players by electronic means (like computers, consoles, among others) in any video game; however, most video games considered as "e-sports" are multiplayer

A little about history

The first known video game competition took place at Stanford University in October 1972 for the video game "Spacewar", where the students of that university faced each other to win a one-year subscription to Rolling Stone magazine. Later, in the 1980s, the Space Invaders championship was one of the biggest videogame competitions for that time, as more than 10,000 people attended the event, from this moment the potential of the e-sports was known. What they could become with the course of the years After the 1990s video games became more well-known online, because more people had access to the internet. In this decade also came to the market great games such as Warcraft and Counter Strike, which, thanks to their success motivated to grow the number of players and therefore the scene of e-sports Already from the decade of 2000 to the present, things have changed a lot in favor of e-sports It is known that by 2010 e-sports had taken a very big step, increasing drastically the number of spectators and the amount of income generated. Many successful tournaments occurred in this decade, including World Cyber Games (WCG), Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) or Major League Gaming (MLG). The popularity of live streaming platforms has significantly helped the growth of e-sports. One of the best known today is Twitch, where players broadcast live as they play, some with the aim of amusing their audience, or others with the aim of teaching and giving advice of whatever they are playing, many Players receive money for advertising or donations that can be made by the same viewers if they wish to help the streamers. In this platform also is very common the transmission of important tournaments of videogames like Counter Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Dota 2 and many others more. However, e-sports have not only increased their virtual viewers. For example, in 2014 the League of Legends World Cups were held in Seoul, South Korea (specifically at Sangam Stadium), attended by more than 40,000 people with the presence of the American rock band Imagine Dragons.

Some electronic sports

It should be noted that today there are many electronic sports, some ones better known than others, but not less important. For example, one of the best known to date is the League of Legends, a MOBA released in 2009, which began to take popularity very quickly after 2012. Today, it is one of the best known and played online videogame Or Counter Strike: Global Offensive, anyone who has played the well-known Counter Strike 1.6 will be able to remember the viral that was such a game in its time, to this day it is still but a version with improved graphics, different maps and some Classics, as well as a great improvement of the previous versions speaking in general terms. Many local, national and international tournaments take place today, some even being broadcast on sports channels such as ESPN, among others. There are also a lot of video games that I could talk about e-sports, such as Dota2, Hearthstone, Vainglory, Smite, FIFA, Call of Duty, Battlefield, among others. But if I name them all and describe them the post could be extremely extensive.

My opinion?

To finish, I will give my opinion about e-sports. As an assiduous player of different games and platforms, the world of e-sports seems to me very interesting and excellent that to this day they are sufficiently developed to offer to the professional players and spectators an optimum enjoyment of the competitive videogames, believe me when I say that the emotion that you can feel when your favorite team exterminates the other or wins a match is the same as a football fan when his team scores a goal, I for my part if I consider that e-sports, at least if they are not sports, they are very close to being. In Latin America, the electronic sports scene is one of the least developed on the entire planet, although it is still growing little by little, however, it is not close to being similar to South Korea, or other Asian countries, in terms of e -sports, that practically take us years of advantage.

There were many things that I could talk about here, however I chose not to do it because for personal reasons I do not like to do very long posts, but if you liked it I could do another one of these days delving deeper into e-sports :)
