Playing with time for A Ripple In Time step 2/8 + guide on objectives
I started the second part of A Ripple In Time yesterday after finishing the first part. For this part the people in my region kinda lack behind on those for whom the Special Research quests for Celebi started in the afternoon with raids still available. As I have described in my previous blog post about the Celebi quest.
In this screenshot from yesterday you can see the objectives for the second part and why it makes people in my region lack behind a bit. The following tasks have to be done for A Ripple In Time's second objectives:
- Make 3 new friends
- Evolve and evolved Grass-type Pokémon
- Catch a Pokémon 3 days in a row
As new events always start at 10pm in my region and there are no raids here anymore that late in the Eeveening, we couldn't complete the first part of the quest's objective "Battle in a raid". Therefore we couldn't start step 2/8 on the first day yet to get our first day of catching Pokémon 3 days in a row in already. More on that later in this blog post as I'll focus on the objectives in order
For the first objective here you need to make 3 new friends. This one shouldn't be too hard if there are several people in your region playing the game that you come across. Especially when you plan a raid with other people. Though you might have added all of them already.
Yesterday when I was at this step you could remove one of your friends and add them again, this would give +1 for making 3 new friends and can be repeated 3 times. Your friendship level with that friend was still kept, so you don't have to start over. However there is no guarantee Niantic would let it be like this as they might not have intended it to work this way. So only use this at your own risk if you don't have new people to add.
If you want to add me as a friend you may definitely do so. My friend code is 9702 9199 1910
Now for the second objective of this step you need to evolve and evolved Grass-type Pokémon. Which means you need to evolve a stage 1 evolution into its stage 2 evolution, and not evolve a basic Pokémon into its stage 1 evolution. So this can only be done with Pokémon that evolve twice. I personally chose to catch a wild Hoppip and evolve it into Skiploom, then further into Jumpluff for this quest. As I had around 900 Hoppip candy. That made me complete the objective as can be seen in the start of this evolution screen.
Here is a list of all the Grass-type Pokémon that you can currently evolve for this objective:
- Bulbasaur -> Ivysaur -> Venusaur
- Oddish -> Gloom -> Vileplume
- Oddish -> Gloom -> Belossom
- Bellsprout -> Weepinbell -> Victrebeel
- Chikorita -> Bayleef -> Meganium
- Hoppip -> Skiploom -> Jumpluff
- Treecko -> Grovyle -> Sceptile
- Lotad -> Lombre -> Ludicolo
- Seedot -> Nuzleaf -> Shiftry
I wouldn't recommend evolving any of the starters as you don't come across those that often so the candy would be more useful to keep. Unless you were already planning on evolving one of them. Personally I would suggest to evolve Hoppip to Skiploom and then to Jumpluff as those are found most out of all these Grass-types with two evolutions. Now with Johto Festival you should be able to easily find Hoppip or Skiploom in the wild.
The final objective of this step is to catch a Pokémon 3 days in a row. So when you catch one once you get the quest you will have at 1/3 and then you'll have to catch one tomorrow and the day after to get it finished. People in America for example were able to start this a day earlier if they already battled in a raid when it was released in the afternoon there. I was however able to clear this today already even though it would be at 2/3 with my first Pokémon catch today.
I decided to play with time a little bit, as the quest is called A Ripple In Time anyway. I caught a Pokémon before 1pm my time and then a bit after 1pm I changed the timezone of my phone to another one where it would be just past midnight on my phone. Then I started the game up again, and in my journal it said my last catch was after 11pm then due to this change. So I caught another Pokémon and it counted as the first catch of the day and brought my quest to 3 days in a row already. After that I accepted the new quests and then I changed my timezone to automatic again. This should be entirely harmless, the only thing that'll happen is that I won't get my first catch of the day bonus tomorrow since I already received it now.
This makes me on par with people from other regions again and I can start on step 3 already today.
I hope this guide can help you if you were struggling with one of the objectives in this step.
