GRAN TURISMO SPORT: BRITISH ADVERTISING AGENCY SUES SONY
The UK Advertising Standards Authority, the UK's advertising agency, said it was filing a lawsuit against Sony, saying that one of the game's trailers was untrue.
Indeed, the advertising complained of in this complaint presented an excerpt of gameplay featuring cars and circuits that were actually accessible only on the condition of having a Playstation Network account and, consequently, a connection to Internet. However, nothing in the advertising meant this obligation and this, even if the title is oriented mostly to online multiplayer.
For its part, Sony defended itself by explaining that the connection to the Internet was not obligatory to take advantage of the title and that, even if the presented circuit does indeed require an internet access and an account, the same types of vehicles and circuits were available offline.
Despite this, the UKASA maintained its complaint, stating that unless otherwise stated, the buyers expected to be able to access the content presented while being offline. It also explains that because of this, the ad violated the advertising regulations by not clearly indicating the limitations provided by the developer Polyphony Digital. Moreover, this same trailer has since been banned from broadcasting on British soil.
