Playing in a fairy tale

Child of light is a unique RPG game developed by Ubisoft Montreal. It's built on the UbiArt Framework Engine decorated by a hand-painting artstyle. The story follows a young princess Aurora , as she wakes up on an altar in the mythical land of Lemuria. The black queen has stolen the sun , the moon and the stars from Lemuria and Aurora is entrusted with the task to defeat her and recover them back in order to return to her world and ultimately reunite with her father.

The visuals are great and the hand-painted like environment and figures are unique. Combine that with the music that really shines and it gives you a brilliant outcome.The world of Lemuria is beautiful, the gameplay is pleasing making the players want to explore the environment and find all the available collectibles. It breaths out to you a fairy tale warmth. The characters speak in rhymes and that is making the experience more intense. The majority of the games that coming out every year are factory oriented. So many games look alike just checking on the basics to get fast on the shelves, not paying attention to details. Child of light stands out, not only for its uniqueness, but also for all these little details that sum up in the end on the outcome.

Exploration is fun as Aurora has the ability to fly and get to upper grounds and puzzles are ok. The combat is turn based with real time elements. You can attack, use a potion, assume a defensive position etc. Attacking enemies while they are charging an attack, force them to interrupt and put their move back in the timeline that is shown in the bottom center of the screen. Igniculus is a small blue ball of light. It becomes the first companion of Aurora and helps her in fighting by blinding enemies and slowing their progress in the timeline. There are several other allies that you will find to fight alongside with you, as you progress through the story.

Leveling up gives you one skill point that you can spend on the upgrading tree. On your first hours leveling up will be easy as you will not need much experience and your fights will be easy.That results on distributing skill points all too often for my liking. At the beginning the game may feel like a childish fairytale but as it progresses it takes a more dark and dreadful color.

Conclusion

Most of us have the beautiful memories of our parents reading us fairy tales, now we have the opportunity to play one. Well in fact they were trying to get us asleep, so they could rest but who cares, we didn't know it then. Dad i want more ! Child of light blows on us it's magical dust, making us travel in magical kingdoms, trying to survive from our evil stepmother. I am not the suitable person to judge it's fighting system because i am not a big fan of turned based combat. It seemed legit to me. The skill tree screen was a little bit of annoying because i had every now and then to put skill points and that worked as an anticlimactic factor. I think this is a must have asset in your collection, not for it's gameplay but as a piece of art.

Oh how I adored this game! I got it for free last year or the year before on PS+ and fell in love with both the visuals and game play. Liking the reviews Mode even if I have already played the game.
