Sega Master System Still Lives, Five New Games Prove It

in #games6 years ago

The Sega Master System really had no chance in North America, even though Sega had much better success elsewhere. This could easily be written off as a byproduct, or the direct result, of Nintendo’s business practices during this period. It could also be written off as part of Sega not really understanding the home console market, and selling to consumers in general. No matter how you look at it, the Sega Master System was not as big a success as Sega hoped in the USA. Fans are fans and often they are life long ones. As the system has slipped into the realm of “retro” gaming, it has become more about the games and some fans have worked to support this continued interest. I pulled together five new upcoming (some are available now) Sega Master System games.

Flight of the Pigarus is an overhead caravan shooter. That means you have a time limit - two or five minutes - to get as high a score as you possibly can. The enemies in Flight of the Pigarus are varied and some are wacky, basically not a game taking itself too seriously. I like that. I will definitely cover this more in the future.

Silver Valley promises many things in its 2D side scrolling engine - things like sailing, flying, platforming, etc. Factor in over 60 stages which will be “…rpg like…” and you can see Silver Valley is nothing if not ambitious. The interesting thing about this independent homebrew title is, just how much is shown in the pics already. Definitely one to keep an eye out for.

The next game in this list is a remake of a classic Atari 2600 title, Adventure. Duckslayer Adventures is an updated version of that classic Atari game and it sure is better looking. Check it out if you want to play a better looking version of the classic.

Simpsons Trivia is a quiz game with tons of questions about Fox’s hit show The Simpsons. This is one of those “put up or shut up” games you can put in front of that friend that won’t shut up about what they know about the yellow cartoon family.

Finally we have a puzzle game that is a remake of sorts of Columns, a title that Sega did bring to the Master System. Gemitas is an improved version that features bigger gem icons than Sega’s official entry. Puzzle fans here you go.

Know of a new Sega Master System game that others need to know about? Let me know and I will check it out.
