Playstation One Emulator Released on Xbox One, Kind of

in #games7 years ago

It is an age-old battle for game console makers and game publishers. Emulation. On personal computers, it is nearly impossible to keep reigned in but consoles themselves are another story. Sure, the Sega Dreamcast was pretty much left wide open for hackers to enjoy (and fans reap the benefits). More modern consoles though are locked down tight. Then came the digital stores and digital distribution and hackers have found innovative ways to get “illegal” content on modern consoles. Such as a Playstation One emulator on the Xbox One console.

Apparently, this is not the first console emulator to make it onto the Xbox One console. There is a Nintendo 64 emulator and a Game Boy Advance emulator still available in the Xbox One Marketplace. How you may ask? They are hidden in other applications.

The button combination is - LB+RB+LT+RT

The PSOne emulator is hidden within a PDF viewer for example. A rather unassuming little download that would easily be looked over if it was not for word of mouth. To access the PSOne emulator you simply need to press a certain button combination.

The PDF reader is called WinPDFReader which is a paid app. Once you have it installed and running you can play Playstation One games in the following formats – BIN, ISO, MDF, IMG, CUE, PBP and CBN.

No word on how long this app will be available as Microsoft has a strong position of not allowing emulators for other platforms on Xbox One.

Good post! Many people would certainly like to emulate their nostalgic classics on their modern systems and this seems like a way to actually do that for some of the titles.
