New All in One Game Console Announced, 50 Games Included

in #games6 years ago

Anyone that has been down the video game aisle of any big box store has probably seen those $15 to $20 game consoles that have a certain number of games included. Most of them are trash, the games are poor imitations of classics that might lure in fans that were young during the 80’s. AtGames, makers of various licensed products, has just announced their latest console - the Flashback Legends. This new console will feature 50 games that are a mix of arcade and home titles.

If you are interested reliving the fun of Forgotten Worlds, Strider, Dig Dug, Tetris, Mega Man 1 and 2, etc then this is the console for you. There are a total of 50 games that will be included but there is very little information on what version of each will be included.

It is not likely that we will see the Nintendo version of Tetris for the Nintendo Entertainment System for instance as AtGames does not have a license with Nintendo (that I know of). They recently had a falling out with Sega so it is not likely they will pick up Sega’s Japan only arcade version either. That leaves the Tengen arcade version or one of the many computer versions by various other companies. See the confusion yet?

Strider is another title that is different depending on the version you are playing. The Nintendo Entertainment System version is nothing like the arcade original.

There are many other potential problems here that could be solved with just a bit more information from AtGames here.

Also, they list Judge Dredd and Championship Soccer as being included in the Flashback Legends console. This thread on AtariAge brings up a very good concern over licensing rights for both of these titles, Judge Dredd being the more license centric of the two as it is a game based on a movie based on a comic.

Anyhow, I am at least moderately interested in seeing how this console turns out. Considering the history of AtGames though, I am not holding out for this to be a “super” console of any means.
