Lala Prologue, New Commodore Plus 4 Game Coming
New games for old platforms are sporadic at best. The heyday of seeing 10+ releases a month are long gone, at least for the Nintendo Entertainment System and Commodore 64. That doesn’t mean we never see anything worth playing released today. Far from it. We still see plenty of interesting titles coming out – they just come out a little more spaced apart. Take Lala Prologue for instance, this is a new 2D side scrolling action game for the Commodore Plus/4 computer.
Yeah, you read that right, the Commodore Plus/4. Based on the work of the Mojon Twins, this version of Lala Prologue is obviously more limited in graphics and sound.
That is fine though. There is a certain charm to the graphics and sound present in Commodore Plus/4 version.
As expected, this is a single screen affair. Complete the challenges of this screen and move onto the next by reaching the border.
The graphics look amazing due to some impressive shading techniques that give the graphics a much more detailed appearance than they really are. This is something NES developers never really caught onto – even though the port of Dragon’s Lair used it to profound effect.
More on Lala Prologue as it is made available.
I think my favorite new game for an old system is Halo for the Atari 2600.
This is very interesting, I am going to look into this and see if I can do something.
Maybe buy up some old IP and do a follow up game on an old system.
Thanks for the article
There are tons of old IP's out there. The problem is, no one really knows who owns them.
Then you have people like the ones behind the Socks the Cat release on Super Nintendo that think just because they bought a prototype that they now magically "own" the rights to the game (though the United States Copyright and Trademark office would disagree with them).
Some companies don't care if you make a "demake" like Halo for Atari 2600 while others will shut you down no matter what (Konami and Square Enix come immediately to mind).
Where's the sound? Looking forward to the music.
This is a work in progress video. There is not even a demo available yet. I hope they spend as much time working on the music as they did the graphics.
