Classic Fighter Barbarian Receives Female Fighter in Fan Update

in #games6 years ago

It is an interesting conundrum that the gaming community faces right now. We have companies becoming exponentially more interested in protecting their older IP's from fans accessing them, but no effort made to make them officially available to those same fans. Thankfully, right now, Barbarian The Ultimate Warrior is in limbo, USA gamers probably recognize this game as Death Sword. Originally starting as a Palace Software title, then Titus France bought them out only to sell out to Interplay Entertainment – who eventually went bankrupt. This series of events has probably been the best protection for a title like Barbarian because now no one really knows who owns the rights and fans have taken it upon themselves to keep the classic fighter alive and well.

One such effort is Barbarian+ which adds a female fighter to the original game. The second game, which also dropped the second player option, did include a playable female character. Barbarian+ aims to retrofit her into the first game.

Currently slated for the Commodore Amiga, Barbarian+ is shaping up nicely.

Here is the original on Commodore Amiga:

One huge improvement on the list includes beefing up the frame rate over the original which was a port of the Commodore 64 game. When porting from the C64 the team probably didn't have the funds, or time, to improve too much which obviously hurt the final port. Such a shame.

Fans are going to have a fun time traversing the battles in Barbarian+ as everything looks better in this remake. This is what fans with love for the product can do versus people paid to simply do a job.

If you want to follow Barbarian+ closer, check their Facebook page out and let them know you are excited for this release.

My son asked me " wow that it's an old game you ever play this one "at that moment I was viewing this post, The point here is even the new generation could be attracted to these games.

Exactly. These games may be old but they can still bring charm and cull interest from younger gamers if given the chance.

Sometimes it is great to show younger gamers these titles if nothing else as historical exhibits of sorts. Show them where gaming came from.
