Berzerk Ported to Nintendo Entertainment System
When it comes to game ports it is often a brighter outlook if you steer towards independent homebrew developers. This is mainly due to contracts and other legal issues that keep some of our favorite games off certain platforms. Nintendo was well versed in this type of keeping games off other platforms during the NES days. Well, fans are at it again with Berzerk for the Nintendo Entertainment System thanks to Parisoft.
The Genesis of the situation
Originally released in 1980 by Stern Electronics, Berzerk was a single screen action game with quirks. For one, the game is a unique maze game when viewed against its competition of the time. Hell, it is unique even today. There simply is not many titles like Berzerk.
For one, your main enemy, Otto, is represented by a giant smiley face. Next, the enemies are cunning and will work against you in devilish ways.
A Nintendo Entertainment System port huh?
Vintage is the New Old states this port features 2 player alternating or simultaneous gameplay. That is awesome for fans of the arcade machine, or those that are competitive gamers among their friends. The enemies are also programmed to act like they did in the arcade game.
Interestingly, there has not been an official port of Berzerk to the Nintendo NES. There are ports for Atari 2600, 5200, and Vectrex but no NES. Well, Parisoft fixed that with their port. Available now on Itch.io for a couple bucks.
