Why the Dutch are better then you think

in #games7 years ago

A few weeks ago a new Civilization expansion was released. This expansion brought many new game tweaks like the emergency and loyalty. Next to that 8 new civilizations were released. These civizations all have their unique bonuses, of which the dutch is probably the most underrated.

This picture shows the Dutch her unique bonuses, her unique unit and her unique improvement.

Unique Passive Feature: Radio Oranje
This passive feature gives the dutch the oppertunity to settle further away from other cities and generate culture from trade routes. This UPF is good because it can't be used by the opponent and is good when you are pressured by another civ her cities. Also trade routes give you a better relationship with AI, which will get you cheaper deals and maybe even one of the new alliances. Overall this UPF gives u a lot of oppurtunities.

Unique Active Feature: Grote Rivieren
This is the Feature that makes the Netherlands really shine. In Civilization 6 you almost always start close to a river when playing balanced and you are gauranteed to start close to river if you are playing on legendary start. This gives Netherlands the oppertunity to easily build Theater Squires that have an adjacency bonus of 3 or 4. This will give you a +3 era score the first time you make it and a solid base for a culture victory. Next to that it will also boost your science and production which will give u the oppurtunity to rival science-based civilaztion even if u don't start close to mountains. The Culture bomb is handy to be used in combination with polders, but teh time at which polders is unlocked is most of the time to late.

Unique Unit: De 7 provinciën:
The UU of the Dutch is a good navy unit, but is the best in te mid-game. At this time everyone is trying to focus on reaching their end-game and so this unit can't be used a lot. The unit is used if you want to bombard coastal cities or scout the seas.

Unique Improvement: Polder
This improvement has clear advantages and disadvantages. It is good if u place a civ to a river at the start of your game and build a Aquaduct next to it later. This is because teh Aqueduct gives +2 housing if cities already have a water source and +6 if they don't have a water source. The lake will give you +3 housing and by replacing it with a Aquaduct u will have a good housing boost. Next to that it can also be used to stack Districts and to make farms when ur food is low. The disadvantage is that it can't always be used and it can't be removed again. Next to that Polders will be unlocked with Guild civic which will take some turns to reach. In this time you might already have build a solid base, which won't work well with polders.

Overall the Dutch are most suited towards a Culture Victory, but can also be used to gain a good science base and gold. This in combination with the extra production to the Industrial Zone can really help you conquer other civs.
