What is Smite?

Smite is a free to play MOBA, a multiplayer online battle arena. What is that? A MOBA is pretty much a arena in which you battle, pretty self explanatory. What makes it different than other MOBAs? Its third person, while most MOBAs are top down view. This gives a new feeling while playing the game.

How is the game played?

In the game, there are multiple modes, but there are some basic things between all game modes. You pick a god, out of a selection of 50+ as of now, and more being added. In the game, you have to beat the enemy team, which is usually done by defeating their titan, which means going through a lane and defeating towers, which will attack you if you get in their range, enemy minions and enemy gods on the way. You get gold as you play the game, and you can use them to buy items to make your god stronger. You level up and get new abilities. Once you beat the enemy titan, your team wins the game.

What are the game modes?

Smite has five main game modes, a daily game mode and some special modes that come up every once in a while.

Conquest

Conquest is the biggest game mode and has the usual MOBA style, two teams of 5 play on a map with three lanes, each with two towers and a phoenix, which lead to the titan. There is a jungle in which you can kill neutral creatures, for gold and some even give you buffs for a certain amount of time. There is also a fire giant, which gives a buff for your whole team and a gold fury which gives your team a nice gold boost. Defeat the enemy titan tow win.

Arena

Arena is a mode of two teams of five facing each other in a small arena with no towers, or titan. There are small jungles on the side of the map and the goal is to reduce the amount of tickets the enemy team has to zero. Both teams start with five hundred tickets. To reduce the enemy team's tickets, you can kill their gods (minus five ticket for the enemy team per kill), or get your minions to the portal at the end of the map(minus one ticket per minion taken to the portal).

Assault

Assault is a mode with only one lane, and two teams of five. You get assigned a random god. The lane has two towers and a phoenix and like most modes, the goal is to defeat the enemy titan. Unlike most modes, you can't teleport to base

Joust

Joust is a three v three mode. The map is smaller than conquest, only one land and jungles on the side, but much smaller than conquest. Only one tower and one phoenix for each team.

Siege

Siege is a mode like others, except with two lanes and is four v four. There is a jungle in the middle. Siege has one thing different than the other modes and that is the siege juggernaut which will help your team by pretty much being like a giant strong minion.

What is my opinion on the game?

For me, this is the best MOBA ever. I played League of Legends for a while, but didn't really like it. This was a complete change, and I got into the game just as the open beta was ending. I felt as if the community of the game was nice and the game felt more fast paced because of the third person view. Getting started in the game is also a lot easier because of the controls, wasd and the mouse, not pointing and clicking like other MOBAs that I've played. It was also a lot easier for me to get into it because of the controls. So, what are you waiting for, go play the game.
