PC Game Review - Heroes of the Storm

Introduction

Blizzard game company is known for their long to produce but quality games. Heroes of the Storm is one of those, a fun and competitive moba game. So called moba games (multiplayer online battle arenas) are the most popular genre of games today with E-sports and millions of dollars in prize money. 

Essentially there are 5 players in two teams competing with each other in one battle arena with heroes that have different skills and roles. There are 4 roles in this game, Warrior which is the damage soaker, Assasin or dmg dealer, Support or healer and Specialist that can be customized to deal dmg or destroy buildings.

Fun fact about this game that Blizzard is taking the characters from all of their gaming franchises and translating them to this game. For example you can play with Diablo from Diablo games, Kerrigan from Starcraft games, Arthas from Warcraft games. Blizzard have that abundance of characters from their game universes so they can create endless stream of revenue for their Free to Play model.  

Free to Play

With rise of popularity of moba games, free to play games also took the central stage, so why not combine the two. You don't have to pay to play this game, you create an account, download the game and you are set. 

However there are some things you can purchase within the game with real money, such as heroes, skins or mounts. Heroes can be bought with ingame currency called gold that you collect by completing daily quests and by winning games, losing also gives you small amount.

Free to play buisness model gives devs the chance to constantly update the game with new modes and heroes where they put a price tag or give you an option to buy them with ingame currency. Game is constantly getting updated and improved with that kind of model. 

Gameplay

What makes this game different from other mobas is that there are no items to buy and combine, action is ever present with shorter game times, one game in average lasts 25 minutes where in other mobas can last up to an hour. 

Heroes gain shared levels by soaking xp from minions and they get to chose one trait that modifies their skills every 3 levels, also when they reach level 10 they get to chose one of two ultimate abilities. End result is highly customizable hero for any occasion. 

There are multiple arenas with different objectives, every arena has that special feel to it and is themed based on the game universe. Some are Diablo themed, some are Warcraft themed, in the future Starcraft themed battle arenas are coming to play. 

Sky Temple is the arena where you can capture temple points that are guarded with NPC's, and with your team stop the oposing team to do the same, those temples shoot laser beams to your opponent base destroying them quicker with no risk of damage from their towers.

So those objectives give more incentive to do team battles more often than other mobas like League of Legends or Dota 2. 

Optimization and Graphics

Heroes of the Storm is a smooth game that can run on older PC's. I can run it on ultra settings on my old Quad Core 2.66 Mhz Q8400, 4Gb ram, and R7 graphic card. 

Game looks and runs beautiful. Blizzard is known for their optimized games and this one is no different. 

Final Score: 90/100

With this game you can have months of fun. Unlocking heroes, testing them on new battlegrounds, meeting new people. Game offers optimized and smooth gameplay experience with beautiful graphics that makes this game a hit. Minor problem i have is the high gold price of the new heroes, but even that comes down in price after 2 weeks. Also it is hard to unlock full roster without spending few bucks on the game, but you can try them all without paying any money with Heroes of the Storm weekly free to play roster change. Those are all small issues, i highly recommend this game.
