Humble Intergalactic Bundle

in #games7 years ago

For those who don't know what Humble Bundle is:

It started as a website where several PC games from indie developers were put together (Bundle), often themed, and where you (Humble) decided which price to pay for them.
Additionally 10% of the price is send to a charity.

The model has changed a bit. There are e-books now and a game shop and charities to choose.
Also the structure of the bundle has changed: Mostly there are 3 tiers now.

Tier 1 gets you a few "low key" games. Minimum price is 1$.
Tier 2 is "Oldies but Goldies" or games that weren't blockbusters. Minimum 8$
Tier 3 mostly consists of relatively new B-games. Often you get the basic version but not later DLCs.

2 days left for the Intergalactic Bundle!

I decided to write about this one since I like space games and I played a few of them, so here is the content of the bundle:

Tier 1: (with steam ratings)

Space Hulk Ascension (Mostly Positive)

Haven't played it. But Space Marines in turn-based tactical fights? Wort a look!

Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity (Very Positive)

I think this is the version with what we now would call DLCs. Game is a bit older. I played this RTS in the basic version and it was really funny. Only drawback is the change from hectic micro-management and long waiting times when you build up the fleet between big fights.

Galactic Civilizations II: Ultimate Edition (Mostly Positive)

You like Master of Orion? Have a look at this. 4X game with the decidedly drawback of the dice-system in combat. You don't control, your ships have only 1 attack and 1 defense rating. But apart from that good game, but it's easy to overlook some details like moves you wanted to do.

Tier 2

Planetary Annihilation: TITANS (Mostly Positive)

This one got very mixed reviews, partly based on earlier version. Seems to be a mediocre remake of Supreme Commander. Wort a look but not more then get to the finish once I guess.

Rebel Galaxy (Very positive)

Game Mag Reviewer compared it to Freelancer. Description definitely looks great. Is the game I will play first from this pack.

Tier 3

Galactic Civilizations® III (Mostly Positive)

You see the numbers got bigger. Can't say anything about this except that the game comes without DLC. As comes

Offworld Trading Company (Mostly Positive)

This one was already on my list but reviews said its not worth full price. You only get basic game, no DLC.

My recommendation

Get the Tier 2 because all 3 games of T1 are worth a look and Rebel Galaxy has good ratings. T3 mainly depends if you wish the Offworld Trading Company even without DLC, because you already have GalCiv 2 Ultimate.
