Kill The Monsters, Steal The Treasure, Stab Your Buddy!
I had forgotten how much fun Munchkin is to play. Life had gotten really super busy and we went for about 6 or 7 years without a single game. Then the other day my brother stopped by with an old buddy, and they asked to play.
My wife accepted this challenge instantly and ran down to the basement to dig out our Munchkin Card Game Collection. We own two versions of the game and one Expansion Pack.

Munchkin is simple and fun to play for everyone. Munchkin is especially fun for anyone who has ever played Dungeons and Dragons. Video games like Warcraft or Pillars of Eternity apply too. If you have ever raided a dungeon before... Then you are going to have a blast with this card game.
The cards are wonderfully crafted, each containing cute cartoons but each also carries it's own sort of joke concerning role playing games (RPGs). So every card is absolutely hilarious leaving everyone anxious to see the next.
How It Works
Munchkin is a multi-player game that requires a minimum of 3 players but gets much better around 5 to 7 players.
First you will quickly build a character and arm them with items, then...
1. You will Kick Down the Door
Below is an example of a Monster that you might run into when kicking down dungeon doors. This is the Plutonium Dragon, all you D&D fans should get the joke there. This dragon is tough to beat at Level 20 but it can be done with a little help from a friend. Keep in mind, this IS a multi-player game!
2. You will Fight the Monster
The image below shows some player items used in fighting the Plutonium Dragon. This player is using a staff of Napalm (Only Usable by Wizards) along with a really nice set of boots called, The Boots of Butt Kicking. Together, the two items give a +7 bonus to the player fighting the Plutonium Dragon!
3. You will Grab the Treasure
If you defeat the monster, and I do mean IF... Then you get to loot the room by grabbing the treasure. In the case below, this player picked up two really nice items. A Magic Missile, and a Potion of General Studliness. HA!
Level Up when you kill a monster and the first person to reach level 10 wins!
Some of My Favorites
Here are some of my favorite cards from the original version, if you can read them. I love the way they play on names... Broad Sword (only usable by females), or the Chemical Mace. C'mon folks, this stuff is hilarious.

I remember spending a lot of time playing this while in college... We ended up combining Munchkin Fu and Munchkin Dark, just so that somebody could end up with "Black Eye-shadow ... Of My Grandfather!"
HA, that is hilarious too, I really dig the way the decks can be mixed up. Pretty creative and fun stuff.
Played the pirate version a few times it was good times.

It's been awhile since I played that. I used to play that with my kids quite a bit when they were younger. Eventually they graduated to Magic The Gathering.
I enjoy Magic too but I think Munckin is a better game for more general crowds. Magic kinda requires a specific type of player and they are usually pretty hardcore. I just ended up giving all my Magic cards to my bro, he was impossible to beat anyway. lol
Magic takes a lot more reading and the rules are far more complicated. That's why I started my kids with Munchkin. :)
