Reaper Miniatures Bones V: Escape from Pizza DungeonsteemCreated with Sketch.

A strange post title, but that's what Reaper Miniatures has titled their latest Kickstarter campaign. As with Bones I-IV, the project funds the up-front cost of manufacturing molds required for producing a new range of miniatures. Since they have a solid track record of fulfilling their campaigns, it's also a safe bet that this one will also succeed.

Ah, but what is Kickstarter? If you're unfamiliar with the site, it is a crowdfunding platform where creators pitch their projects, and interested backers fund it at a grassroots level. If the pledged funds meet a minimum level, the project is funded. If there isn't enough support, pledges are refunded. Backers usually get some sort of physical or digital reward, too, and if pledges vastly exceed the minimum, some creators offer "stretch goals" with better rewards for those who back the project. For example, if a band wants to produce an album, they request funding for studio time and production of physical media. Exclusive vinyl records and other merch might be included at higher pledge levels, while a simple $5 or $10 might get a digital MP3 download of the album and $20 might get a physical CD.

In the case of Bones V: Escape from Pizza Dungeon, the pledge reward is a literal heap of plastic miniatures suitable for Dungeons & Dragons, Savage Worlds, Pathfinder, Kings of War, and various other tabletop games. It is possible to pledge just $1.00 to gain access to the pledge manager after the campaign, but the core pledge is $120.00 for a huge array of miniatures. Some of these models are re-releases of older designs previously available only in metal, and others are brand-new. This campaign's reward structure is rather complicated, so Reaper has an external pledge manager to help calculate the cost for pledge rewards and add-ons, and additional orders and shipping costs can also be covered after the Kickstarter campaign has concluded.

Stretch goals are being unlocked left and right on Bones V, although the usual mid-campaign lull between the initial frenzy and the last-minute bids has slowed the rate of tantalizing new goodies being revealed. Some are added to the core set as a bonus at no extra cost, and some require an extra pledge amount. I would embed an image of all the minis available, but the graphics are apparently too large to display. The core set alone currently includes over 100 minis, so go check out the campaign!
