Magic: The Gathering - Commander Deck Overview 9

in #games7 years ago (edited)

Green ramp plus red aggression equals a potent deck style. Unlike the deck in my previous post, this makes reliably effective use of +1/+1 counters on creatures, especially through the influence of the commander.

Borborygmos

Borborygmos is a potent combatant, and his ability to boost the combat power of everyone when he deals any combat damage to an opponent makes him a huge threat. Ideally, he would be equipped with the Mage Slayer sword, which allows him to boost everyone before combat actually begins, but "Trample" means even without that, he is likely to deal some damage. The urge to block all of his attack means other attacking creatures can deal a lot of non-commander damage too. It places opponents in a bad situation where they have to choose which level of pain they will suffer.

Many cards like Gruul Ragebeast, Shockmaw Dragon, Destructor Dragon, Destructive Revelry, Vandalblast, and Pit Fight add damage to creatures and remove bonuses held by opponents. The rest of the deck either ramps mana to boost the rate of casting big creatures, boost creatures to make them bigger, or otherwise generally support the tide of angry beasts this unleashes.

This deck is good enough that I would consider trying it with more competitive players. It has some relatively expensive cards in it only because I have drawn them from packs, and is designed to make otherwise-lackluster cards very effective when used together. If you prefer aggro with big stompy beasts in HULK SMASH mode instead of the hordes of tokens generated by Krenko, Ezuri, or Nath, this is an extremely fun deck to play.
