Wolfenstein: The New Order (PS4): Decent so far, but I hope it gets better

I think the reason why I am overly critical of these games is because, for the most part, I'm not really a fan of FPS games. I prefer to watch other people play them than play them myself. It, for some reason, just isn't my jam.... Nostalgia and the massive discount on the price-tag convinced me to check this one out.

Wolfenstein the original is largely considered to be the very first FPS game ever made. Doom is the title that really brought it to the mainstream but back in the days of early gaming a game as bloody and spooky as the original Wolfenstein had never been seen before. Then they went on a break for 30 years.

When I saw "Bethesda" and "ID" on the opening screens I had really high hopes for this game but, I gotta say that I'm actually a bit bored with it already but will admit I haven't really gone into the game far enough to have a real opinion.

The game begins in an interesting way with you being on an invading warplane that eventually crash lands in Nazi occupied territory. I do like the way that they had you perform multiple tasks, one of which was to man the turret to shoot down enemy fighter planes.

You then infiltrate a bunker as they slowly teach you how to play the game and just like in any shooter, this is extremely easy but will still see you die a few times as you come to terms with the controls. It is actually a pretty effective tutorial.

This begins the part of the game where I started to get a bit bored and I don't know what they could do to alleviate this. It just seemed that for the next hour I was doing the same thing over and over again and based on the mostly positive response that this title has received back when it was new in 2014 I have to imagine that it will get better or perhaps I am just not the right audience for this.

I do really enjoy stuff that is WW2 based and I will applaud the writers for being super-inventive and actually creating an alternative universe where the Allies actually LOSE the war (Don't read into this too much, it's just nice to not know what's eventually gonna happen in a storyline.)

I'm not trying to bash this game, because I have only played it for about 2 hours. I know I need to give it more time for me to get into the story. The game looks fantastic, of course, even though it is more than 5 years old. The voice acting is superb and so far the controls are simple enough that you can jump straight in and play. So far, it has been well worth the $8 or so that I paid for it but to be honest I keep waiting for it to be captivating the way that other WW2 oriented FPS games such as Call of Duty, enthralled me. Up to now, I have not really experienced that sensation at all.

So far, I'm actually a bit "meh" about this game but i'm not gonna let my hard-earned eight bucks go to waste!

I am not that great at first person shooters either. In fact there are a number of times that I find myself getting motion sick while playing them. It doesn't happen all the time, but occasionally it does. I was never good at them on a console. Give me a keyboard and a mouse any day. My favorite alternate history game is probably Command and Conquer Red Alert (1 and 2). Those games were so awesome.

RTS games like Command and Conquer always will hold a special place in my heart. I love a great strategy game (first one I played was called Doom).... I am always on the lookout for a new one but unfortunately the genre has kind of died out for (you guessed it) FPS games - which there are hundreds of every year.

Yes, I agree, there hasn't been a good RTS in years.
