As you probably know, we are seeing a new iteration of FIFA or Madden every year, with improved mechanics and visuals and updated teams. For Electronic Arts, going to a different model is a possibility.

Bloomberg recently spoke with the CEO of American publisher Andrew Wilson and asked him if one day, instead of receiving a new full game a year, we might just be dealing with renewed online content like the Grand Theft Auto:

To answer simply, the answer is "yes". This will not happen without intermediate steps though. We add a lot of things every year in FIFA, in Madden. A lot of new code is published in each iteration. But if we look at what we are doing in Korea or China, the way we act is different. There, we publish a major update every four years, with progressive changes in the meantime. What we see in Korea or China, what we see on mobiles, it is possible that we end up noticing in other places. (...) There is a world where it is easier to publish this new code, a world where we do not need to make an annual outing. These games could be considered as services, active all year long.
