A Little View Inside Habbo’s World

Today I come to talk about a topic I know many of you remember, this is Habbo, previously known as Habbo Hotel, is a social network in form of a game where the main idea is to control a character that is hosted in a spectacular hotel with other people connected to each other in real time with the aim of know new people to talk about topics of interest, make friends and enjoy the hotel’s games. A character is created by us, that is, we can put the color of the skin and clothes we want to our character, like all social network we need a name to identify us, after that we start in our own hotel room, when you are starting the room is empty, this should be filled creatively with furniture. Here in Habbo the furniture is known as "furnis", you can buy furnis with "Habbo Credits", this is the currency of the game, with habbo credits you can buy more and better furniture and you can make your character look better. Registration is free but habbo credits costs real money that is paid in various ways like credit cards, sms messages, etc.

During your stay in Habbo you will make many friends from different countries, I remember that when I played I met people from all over the world but the friends who were always with me lived in Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Argentina and in my country Venezuela, that in my particular case. The friends you meet can be added in the "habbo console", which allows you to keep in touch with them. When you have a conversation, the game has some control because if you use obscene words appears the "Bobba" filter, whose function is to replace the bad word used by the word "bobba". You can meet new people visiting the different rooms of the hotel, these are known as "public rooms" because they don’t belong to any person, in them are most of the people and you can spend a very pleasant time with they chatting and sharing opinions, the rooms that belong to the people are called "private rooms", they often need the permission of the owners of the room to enter, here you usually meet habbos who already know each other and spend time doing any number of things that come to their mind.

One of the interesting things about habbo are the games it offers, on one hand, there are the hotel's games like "Freeze", which consists in freezing your opponents. There are also games created by users that take place in private rooms, one of the most popular were "Falling Furni ", this was a great game, a lot of habbos were in a room and then appeared chairs and users had to occupy a seat, the one without chair was disqualified, and so on until the last one was the winner, there was also the popular "Fridge Game", a kind of russian roulette in which several habbos were taking objects from a refrigerator and the user who took out a carrot was eliminated, so this happened successively until the last one was the winner. These games were very entertaining but were banned in Habbo since there were many cases of fraud.

There are users who are very popular in this network, part of this popularity can be gained belonging to what is known as "Habbo Club", represented by its acronym "HC", to belong to this elite users you must pay a monthly fee with habbo credits and with it are granted benefits like better furnis, better clothes and you can have more friends in the habbo console.

Much has changed in the game since I stopped entering and there have been many updates and improvements but the central structure of the game is the same. It should be noted that the vast majority of users are young people between 13 and 18 years old who are often obsessed with this game and are able to spend up to 50 hours connected, which is detrimental to health, also you can see cases of adults who enter in the game and offer credits to young people in exchange for cybersex, many cases of child pornography have appear because of this. On the other hand you see a lot kids obsessed with habbo credits and they would do anything to get them, inside the hotel there are habbos with enough money to offer jobs to the most naive users using them to work for hours at the hotel and at the end they are being exploited. I have to mention there are users called "babies" whose only function is to waste time acting like a baby that will be adopted by another user.

Habbo seems to me a very entertaining game that was part of my childhood. We must emphasize that it is a game to enjoy and hang out but it is good to remember that the true social life is lived in the outside world and not in front of a computer for hours with a virtual life.
