PlayStation News: PS5 Release date, PS4 Pro Bundle to top Xbox One X, FREE PSVR games

Although most of the talk this week has focussed on Microsoft and their newly released Xbox One X, talk between games publishers has already started to shift towards Sony's next move, which of course will come with the eventual release of their PS4 successor, the PS5.

Shawn Layden - Chairman of Worldwide Studios and President of Sony Interactive Entertainment America - confirmed earlier this year with German website Golem that a PS5 “is coming” but it will “probably be some time” before we see a PS5 released.

Which will likely remain Sony's suitably vague stance for the foreseeable future, or at the very least, E3 2018 when we might start to hear

But Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has been more forthcoming with his own opinions, having this week stated that he believes the PS5 release date is “minimum of two years away”.

This would mean the PlayStation 5 could come out in 2019 at the earliest and as we mentioned before, E3 2018 could be when Sony first start teasing this new PlayStation console, assuming they treat it the same way Microsoft has with the Xbox One X.

Speaking of which, Guillemot also said he believes the next Xbox will also come out at the same time as the PS5.

According to GameSpot, Guillemot expressed these feelings during an investors’ call, where he said: "As Sony launched PlayStation 4 Pro last year and Microsoft Xbox One X this year, we think we still have a minimum of two years in front of us before something new is coming.

Guillemot was also keen to stress that this isn't based on any inside information, but rather the companies opinion, saying: "that's our perception, we don't have any confidential information on that front."

Still, you would think that having worked in the industry for some time that Ubisoft would have a pretty decent handle on when these crucial moments could occur in the years ahead.
