1. I’m not one for horror films.

2. I’m not so much one for games anymore (though I used to play video games pretty much all the time as a kid).

3. I’m really not one for “horror games” in light of all that. BUT. Sometimes some suspense, and the adrenaline of survival in a controlled, no-risk environment is fun.

ENTER: “AoOni”!

“Ao Oni” (青 鬼) means “Blue Demon” in Japanese. In this first game (there are actually three now), several characters enter what is basically a haunted house and get locked in. Everybody disappears and you are stuck as the main character, trying to find your friends and get the hell out. To do this, you must explore the creepy-ass house, picking up items and solving various puzzles. Broken dishes, catatonic, fear-paralyzed friends in closets, and bloodstained piano keyboards lend an air of real hair-raising creepiness to the whole affair. On top of all this, the inarticulably horrifying AoOni lurks around the house, waiting to jump out and kill you at any moment.
