How to Do a Ping Test on a Windows 10 PC

in #game11 months ago

If you want to test your computer connection or check the quality of your internet connection, all you need to do is perform a game ping test. If you encounter connection issues, you will be able to determine if this is limited to your local network (your home or office settings), or if the problem exceeds (your internet service provider, host network, or specific website). Here is how to perform a ping test on a Windows 10 computer and how to read the game ping test.
Note: If you want to know how to perform ping testing on a Mac, please refer to our step-by-step guide.
What is Ping testing?
The ping test is used to measure your latency and tells you the quality of the connection. Low latency connections are crucial for online games, fast loading of web pages, video chats, and more.
When you perform a ping test, your computer sends a small data packet to your host, web domain, or other devices in the network. The result will display the speed (in milliseconds) at which your computer received a 'pong' response. You want the ping response time to be as short as possible.
How to Perform Ping Testing on Windows 10 Computers
To ping in Windows 10, open the Windows Search box, type CMD, and then click Open. At the command prompt, type ping followed by a space, then type the IP address or domain name you want to test, and then press Enter.
Open the Windows Search bar. You can perform this operation by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Then enter CMD in the search bar and click Open. This will open a command prompt window with a black background, white text, and a flashing cursor.
Type ping, followed by a space and an IP address or domain name. For example, you can enter "ping 192.168.1.1" or "ping hello-tech. com". If you want to ping your router, take a look at our guide on how to find the IP address of your router.
Finally, press the Enter key on the keyboard and wait for the ping test result.
How to read Ping test results
When conducting ping tests on a Windows 10 PC, you will see the results of four different ping tests. Each test will tell you the ping time (in milliseconds) and how many packets were received or lost. You will also see the minimum, maximum, and average ping response times.
If one of the ping tests shows packet loss, or if one ping response takes much longer than the others, it may indicate a problem with your connection.
If you are conducting a ping test to check your internet connection, you can ping Google's DNS server by entering "ping 8.8.8.8". This will tell you if there is a problem with your internet connection, not just connecting to a certain website.
To see continuous ping results, you can add "- t" after the command. For example, you can enter "ping 8.8.8.8- t" to check if your connection to Google's DNS server has timed out. Then, to stop the test, simply press the Control+C keys on the keyboard at the same time.
