Synopsis

Chronologically the game takes place four years after Uncharted 3: Drake's betrayal. The retired fortune-hunter Nathan Drake happily lives his life together with his wife Elena Fisher, but everything collapses when his brother Sam appears, the one Nathan thought was dead. Sam needs your help to unmask a historical conspiracy of the famous adventurer pirate Henry Avery and his legendary treasure. In addition, they are not the only ones looking for the treasure, since Rafe Adler, a billionaire and former partner of the Drake brothers while in prison, is also looking for him, with the help of Nadine Ross, the leader of the Shoreline mercenary network. Because Nathan feels guilty for having left his brother for dead in the past, he decides to return to the world of treasure hunters. During the trip, Drake will go through suburbs and snow-covered areas, but the main location will be Libertalia, a lost city in Madagascar.
Naughty Dog has called it "his greatest adventure so far, which will test the limits of his physical ability, his determination, and will make him decide how much he is willing to sacrifice to save his loved ones

Argument

In the middle of a storm, Nathan Drake drives a boat in the sea next to his brother, Samuel Drake, while they are persecuted by a group of mercenaries. But his attempts to escape are in vain and his boat is shot down by a ship. After this, the story recedes to Nathan's preadolescence, approximately in 1992 when he was living in a Catholic orphanage, showing that his real name is Morgan and not Drake. That same night, Nathan is punished for an altercation with another child. After Sister Catherine's scolding, she remains alone in the room, until her brother Sam appears on the roof of one of the orphanage buildings and signals him with a flashlight. Therefore, Nathan goes out the window, meets Sam and escapes from the orphanage. But he tells Nathan that he must leave the city for a temporary job where he can earn money, telling Nathan that he already knows where his mother's belongings are (after they were sold by his father, who had abandoned them in the orphanage when his mother died) and he will do everything possible to return.
Years later, both are looking for clues about the lost treasure of the legendary pirate Henry Avery. With the help of a corrupt policeman named Vargas, both infiltrate a prison in Panama. Inside they allied with Rafe Adler, a millionaire who also came to prison. Inside, Nate has a fight with Gustavo, a Latin American prisoner. Nate, Sam and Rafe search for clues from Avery's first officer, Joseph Burnes, who was hanged in a nearby area of the prison. Nate finds the cell of the first officer and retrieves a cross of San Dimas, which indicates the next location of the treasure. However, Nathan lies to Vargas and tells him that he has not found anything. He meets Sam and Rafe to examine the cross. The three suppose that, probably, the treasure is in Scotland, since the cross is of San Dimas, and in that country there is a cathedral dedicated to this saint, and they decide to escape. But an altercation with Gustavo and some of his friends makes it difficult for them to escape. Vargas appears and takes the three to his office. Vargas realizes that he has been tricked and tries to negotiate with them to get a share of the profits, but Rafe stabs him after "closing" the deal and the three are forced to flee. Unfortunately, Sam is shot near the exit (apparently dying), but Nate and Rafe manage to escape.
Fifteen years later, Nathan sets aside his adventures as treasure hunters. Now he leads a normal life, working for a marine salvage company and living with his wife Elena. One night, at your place of work, you receive an unexpected visit. It's your brother Sam. He explains that the doctors saved him from his serious injuries that time, but the Panamanian authorities kept him in prison after Vargas' death. Even so, Nathan can not believe that his brother is still alive. Sam holds a conversation about Nathan's adventures during his absence. But after listening to him, he tells her about his problems. Apparently, his last cellmate was the leader of a Panamanian cartel, called Héctor Alcázar. A year earlier, the cartel army attacked the prison and helped Alcazar and Sam escape. The problem is that Sam always told him details about Henry Avery's treasure. Now Alcazar wants a part of that treasure and threatens to kill him if he does not find the treasure within three months. Therefore, Sam requests the help of his brother to find the treasure before the deadline is reached. Although Nathan refuses at first, he sympathizes with his brother and helps him. Nathan informs Sam that Rafe is still looking for the treasure. So that his wife does not suspect, he tells him that he is doing a special job in Malaysia by order of his boss.
Now Nathan and Sam travel to Hacienda Rossi, in Italy, to meet with Victor Sullivan. There will be auctioned a second cross of San Dimas, and Sam discovered that Henry Avery made more than one cross, since the first did not show too many clues, and had a large gap as if it were opened at one stroke. After infiltrating the building, the trio notes that the cross is about to be sold to the highest bidder. Since they can not steal it the way they planned, they choose to deactivate the building's electricity. Sully meets Nadine Ross, who is the leader of a mercenary network called Shoreline; then he is surprised by Rafe, who arrives looking for the cross and reveals that he joined with Nadine to find the treasure. While Sully gains time competing against Rafe in the auction, Nathan manages to infiltrate in the installations of maintenance and deactivates the electricity. Sully and Sam take the cross and go unnoticed from the auction. Meanwhile, Nathan manages to evade the guards, who remain alert to find them. But he meets Nadine Ross and confronts her in a hand-to-hand combat. During the fight, Nadine throws Nate

through the window, but fortunately he survives and escapes with others. The trio examines the cross and find another clue that will take them to Scotland, to the Cathedral of San Dimas. According to the apocryphal writings, Dimas was one of the malefactors to which Jesus said: "You will be with me in Paradise." At that time, Victor and Sam advise Nathan not to continue with the trip and return with his wife. But he returns to lie and embark on the search for treasure. Once in Scotland, the Drake brothers meet the Shoreline mercenaries, which means that Rafe and Nadine are also there. Even so, they manage to reach the cathedral and find an underground passage in the supposed grave of Henry Avery. Once they solve the riddles of the catacombs, the Drakes realize that the treasure is not there. They only get another hint of the treasure through a holographic map, which leads them to Madagascar. The discovery is interrupted when Nadine and her army capture the Drake but, fortunately, manage to escape with Victor. However, once in Madagascar, Nate lies to Elena again telling him that Malaysia's work will take longer than expected. Although she cares a little, Nathan convinces her not to go where he is. Now the trio heads to the dormant volcano of Kings Bay. The problem is that Shoreline is one step ahead. There they find a symbolic map that reveals several possible locations of where the treasure is located. The locations are twelve towers throughout Madagascar. They also discover that Henry Avery, Thomas Tew, and ten other pirates stored all their treasures in one place, so the treasure could be much larger than they think. So Sam, Nate and Sully decide to separate and look for clues in different towers. Nathan and Sully go to a tower near a market, upon entering, they discover a giant clock that had not worked for some time. When solving the riddle of the clock that implied to sound all the bells in a certain order, it is totally destroyed, revealing the entrance to a room with a final riddle, which turns out that the tower they went to is the correct one. Once they solve the riddle, they discover their next destination. The problem is that Rafe has tapped their phones and you know where they are. He offers Nate the opportunity to leave everything and leave, but he rejects the offer. Therefore, seeing that Sam is in danger, Nate and Sully face the Shoreline mercenaries and manage to rescue him. Back at the hotel, the Drakes explain to Sully that the treasure hints point to Libertalia, a pirate colony of which Avery and the other captains appear to be the owners and founders. To his surprise, Nate enters the room and finds his wife Elena. Seeing that he discovers the truth, he can no longer lie to him and decides to tell him everything. But Elena argues with him for having lied to him and not mentioning anything about Sam. She leaves, letting her husband do what he should. Sam and Sully try to convince him to go with his wife and return home, but he insists on continuing and asks Sully to take care of Elena while going with Sam to Libertalia. Once they arrive on the island to continue exploring, Nate and Sam find the statue of Henry Avery, which reveals the location of another contiguous island unexplored. But the Shoreline mercenaries get where they are. At that moment, the protagonists are at the beginning of the story, where they are persecuted by the mercenaries in the middle of the storm. His boat is attacked by a boat and Nate is unconscious. Nathan wakes up, but discovers that his brother has disappeared. However, Sam beckons him with the flashlight so that he knows it's okay, so Nate decides to continue. During the tour, the Drake brothers meet again and hold a discussion about whether they should continue with the treasure hunt or not. But more clues lead them to keep going, until they find the Libertalia colony. When exploring the houses and buildings of the place, they discover a local map that shows them the way to the treasure. But during the tour, they are attacked by the mercenaries. Later, Nathan and Sam fight against Nadine until Rafe arrives with his men. Sam takes Nadine hostage. Rafe provokes him to shoot him, but the moment Sam pulls the trigger, Nate avoids it and both surrender. So Nate tries to make a deal with Rafe. It will help you find the treasure in exchange for leaving Sam free to fulfill the Alcázar term. But Rafe reveals the truth: Alcázar died in a shootout in Argentina 6 months ago and never escaped from jail with Sam. He never stopped looking for the treasure since they escaped from Panama. He discovered that Sam was alive and released him from prison by bribing the cops to help him find him. Even so, Nathan tries to convince him to help him find the treasure. But Rafe points to Nate, giving him to understand that he does not need it,

the one to Sam, who interposes and Rafe wounds him in the arm, but Nate falls to the precipice, being unconscious. At that moment, his wife Elena arrives to help him. Again, history recedes to Nathan's preadolescence, when he escaped with his brother from the orphanage in search of his mother's things. He and his brother go to look for their mother's belongings in a gigantic house, full of valuable archaeological artifacts of great ancient civilizations. When they find the diary and the things of their mother, they are discovered by the old woman who lives in the house, named Evelyn, who points them with a revolver to give them the newspaper, revealing that she had called the police. But realizing that they are the children of Cassandra Morgan, she gives them the diary and tells them that she and her mother were historians, that they made great discoveries together, and also formulated theories about the possible offspring of Sir Francis Drake, but it all ended after Cassandra's death. But when talking to the police about the misunderstanding, Evelyn suddenly dies of a heart attack, so Nathan and Sam are forced to escape from the police. Upon discovering that his mother was an historian and believed that Sir Francis Drake had heirs, they adopted the Drake name thereafter to protect their identity from the police. At that time it is discovered that the mother of the protagonists was the one who found the letter of Joseph Burnes that appears at the beginning of the game and they decide to follow their clues, which leads to discover the vocation of Nate as treasure hunter. Back to the present, Nate tells Elena the truth and tells him how he and his brother started their adventures since childhood. Therefore, Elena and Sully decide to help him rescue Sam. During the course of the search, Nathan tries to recover his relationship with Elena. The problem is that the Shoreline mercenaries monitor the entire area of the jungle, so Nathan and Elena must face them. As they discover more details of what happened in Libertalia, they manage to rescue Sam. Although the others are planning to leave, Sam wants to find the treasure. Try to convince Nathan that there is still an opportunity to find him before Rafe. Apparently, the treasure is under the highest mountain on the island, in New Devon, where pirate captains lived. However, Nathan reasons with him, telling him that they are no longer children and have nothing to prove. Sam reluctantly accepts and they go to the plane with the rest. When trying to return, Sam separates from the rest and decides to look for the treasure on his own. The others decide to look for him and bring him back, but Elena and Sully can no longer go on, letting Nathan look for his brother. It goes into the cave of the mountain. On a pier, Nadine and two mercenaries are carrying some boxes with gold, and Rafe arrives saying that they must go to the ship, Nadine reveals that she lost many men and that she prefers to return with what she has to stay to die. To make her see reason, Rafe slaps her; Nadine, angry, tries to kill Rafe, but one of the mercenaries provokes her, revealing that Rafe promised them money to put themselves on his side and to control his own boss, in case he resigns. After this, the four head to Avery's ship. Nate decides to swim to the ship, but shortly after an explosion occurs on the ship. He infiltrates the ship and finds the two mercenaries dead and Avery's treasure in large quantities, revealing that he was indeed there. Nate enters the treasure room and sees that his brother is unconscious and Nate surrenders to meet Rafe, who orders Nadine to take the weapon. But Nadine takes the weapon from Rafe, betraying him, and leaves with the two treasure chests she found earlier, but not before locking them up. Nate realizes that there are a couple of skeletons with swords nailed: they were Henry Avery and Thomas Tew, who killed each other to keep the treasure. At that moment Rafe goes mad, takes the sword from Tew and fights against Nate in a duel to death, but not before revealing that the only reason he wanted the treasure was to be known, since he was envious of Drake. Nathan takes Avery's sword and fights with Rafe. Rafe takes the sword from Nate and is about to kill Nate; Sam, taking back the knowledge, gives the sword to Nathan and this manages to dodge Rafe's attacks. However, Rafe destroys his sword, but just before being executed, Nate cuts a rope with what was left of his sword, which makes a net with large loads of gold fall on Rafe, killing him on the spot. Although the ship begins to explode by gunpowder (causing its sinking) and the mountain collapses, the Drake manage to escape and escape the island with Elena and Sully. Back to the port of Madagascar, Nathan and Elena say goodbye to Sam and Sully to return home. Meanwhile, Sam and Sully decide to associate

get ready to start working together. Back at home, Nate is in his office working and his boss tells him he is selling the company. To his surprise, now Nate is the new owner of the salvage company. Nate believes that his boss is joking, but Elena appears that same afternoon and explains that he bought the company with the gold that Sam gave him when he got it from Libertalia. Although Nate begins to doubt his intentions, Elena confesses that he wants to live an adventurous life with him and that gives them meaning in their lives. In conclusion, both decide to start their first expedition in Malaysia, the work that Nate never did. On the other hand, Sam implies that, together with Sully, they will try to recover what is left of the sunken ship's treasure. In the epilogue, a young adolescent appears in the final scene looking for her parents while walking through the house where she lives. This is Cassie Drake, the daughter of Nathan and Elena. As he does not find his parents, he decides to go to the study of the house next door. There he realizes that his father left the keys to the closet. Cassie reviews all the relics her parents have collected over the years, including the coin found in Uncharted: Drake's Treasure, a little resin from the Uncharted 2 Tree of Life, the artifact that worked with the ring in Uncharted 3: Drake's betrayal and an Avery treasure coin. Until his parents arrive and he tells them the obvious. Although Nathan doubts if his daughter is ready to listen to his adventures, Elena takes the initiative and both decide to tell everything to Cassie.
