Fortnite is dead? (with statistics)

in #game5 years ago (edited)

The question every single gamer asks themselves, will the Fortnite game ever die?

Well, the answer is quite simple.  It is right now... or let's say it depends on how you define dying.

The game itself will not completely disappear, that’s for sure, however, it could still lose more popularity than it has in recent time. Anyone who frequently visits Twitch or YouTube is certain to have noticed the drop in Fortnite’s viewership.

According to the statistics, it’s pretty clear than Fortnite has taken a beating in terms of viewership since the introduction of Apex Legends. The blue line on the graph represents the number of channels streaming the game on average at any time during a 24-hour period. The green line shows the average viewership at any time during a 24-hour period. What is notable is the steep fall in the number of channels streaming the game, and the initial fall in viewership of about 33%. However, already 2 weeks later, Fortnite has recovered a great deal. This does not change the fact that Fortnite rarely takes the number one spot on Twitch anymore though. Apex Legends consistently outperforms Fortnite in terms of live viewership.

The reason I think that Fortnite is bound to die soon is because of Epic’s business model. Fortnite Battle Royal is a free to play game, so it must make their money off of micro transactions or the two people out of 100 that buy the save the world version. And although the skins can be pretty cool to most people, They’re Getting Old. Sooner or later, Epic, no one’s going to buy those skins and little trails and parachute/umbrellas because they’ll realize it’s a waste of money. And your cosmetics are a huge part of why your game isn’t crumbling to the ground right now. Because Epic, without your cosmetics you wouldn’t have much income, leading to a quicker death. Now, cosmetics out of the way, why else will it die? They are putting in additions no one asked for. They put in the mini gun, machine gun, crossbow (then took it out), the hand cannon, the porta-fort, the boogie bomb, hunting rifle, jump crystals, and probably more that I’m forgetting. They even changed a good portion of their map just for the fun of it! Although I do admire Epic’s hard work of releasing something new in good time, all they are little gimmicks

  • The Mini gun and Machine gun were both added into the game basically so that they could destroy walls. However, so many more guns to this such as the shotguns, assault rifles, that do its job already.
  • The hand cannon is completely useless nowadays  aside from the early game form what I can tell, and no one picks it up unless they’re feeling extra spicy.
  • The hunting rifle does the same job as the sniper but worse.

See a pattern? Everything Epic has added in weapons wise are all degrades from what has been already in the game. Yes, variety is the spice of life but if no one will make use of the variety then it’s pointless!

  • Although the porta-fort is helpful, it kinda just destroys the skill gap in this game which isn’t a good thing.
  • The jump crystals found at crater sites were fun for the first week or so, but now it’s an annoyance to go up against and not fun to use. They added it in because “WHY NOT” and gave no real reason.
  • The boogie bomb is pretty hilarious, however there is no use for it and the game could do without it. It doesn’t have to be here but it is.

Fortnite is scared to change anything that plays a big part in their game, which is understandable. But if Epic keeps adding items that are only useful in the first week or so, the game will become bland. And at some point, that’s how Fortnite will go down in flames.

Although it is also important to be said, that statistics over the amount of searches for Fortnite on Google in the last 30 days, doesn’t show the same story though. According to these statistics, Fortnite is doing just fine at the moment, so enjoy it while it lasts.
