Rayman Legends Review

in #game8 years ago

Recently I was looking for a new platformer to get my hands on, specifically something for the ps4 and ultimately I ended up with Rayman Legends. I had played the Rayman series a long time ago as a child on the ps1 and n64, but remember it being pretty brutal and unforgiving when it came to toughness. I havent replayed them since I was a child, so I wouldnt really know if that still holds true for me today.
However starting out with legends, I found it to be a perfect difficulty that slowly brings you into the gameplay, also giving each level a star for the difficulty.

The game is your typical 2D side view platformer, but with a bunch of extra features added. The controls are tight and when you die more often than not you feel like it was because of something you did wrong. Beating each level feels like an achievement and fully completing a level on the first try has you jumping in joy. I will admit though some of the levels, especially near the end are very brutal and unforgiving, you might have to step away for a bit. It also includes something rare these days, co op gameplay on the same machine which sometimes make it a bit easier.

If you want to fully complete a level there are a few things you need to do. Each level has these little blue creatures in cages you have to save, that are hidden somewhere within the level, with their king and queen being in a small instanced area that are usually very hard to find. There are also a number of flying gold creatures called lums that are basically coins for the game and a form of currency. With them you unlock cool new characters and even different character designs for your character of choice.

If you complete a majority of the level or collect a certain amount of the lums, you will be rewarded with a scratch card which can unlock new extra levels that were in a previous game of the series and also little pets. In terms of collecting there is a ton to do and the game will keep you occupied for several hours. There are also time trials and ways to compete against your friends or other people on the network, but you might find this is for the more hardcore players as getting high in the ranks might be a bit hard.

Overall the game is fantastic and has eaten up hours of my time with me just trying to collect everything that I can and re completing levels to get all of the collectibles. The game itself is also cheap for the ps4, making it a title that definitely is a bang for your buck. There is a version also available on the switch and I believe the xbox one as well. I think I got my copy at around $20 which is an amazing value for what that price brings. You cant get such a high level of entertainment that cheap these days. Definitely check this game out and consider giving it a try.

Rayman is one of my favorite games of ps1 even more than other great titles of the video game industry and what I like about Rayman is his fantasy world and its playability. However, this version I have not played yet, I think he should already do it.
