Amazing facts, the loyalty program registration statistics shows a growth of 15% in 2017, but a decreases rate of 11% since statistics shows the records were 26% in 2015! Why is the decrease of the loyalty program sign-ups? I would personally say according to my experience is the low value of loyalty points given by businesses. I have a loyalty card myself from my favorite retail shop but I don’t use it or provide it to the cashier to load my points after cashing out.

The funny thing is that I have numerous loyalty cards, one of the is from my favorite fashion house – I visit the store occasionally because I don’t go for shopping for clothes all the time, this makes accumulating my points from the store so hard that I don’t think the loyalty card will ever be beneficial to me since I will never get the points needed to redeem my loyalty points.

This is a sorry state for consumers and loyalty programs which is estimated to be worth $500 billion, I can only imagine the percentage of losses and the ineffectiveness of the loyalty programs using traditional methods in centralized loyalty programs. According to my close friends they also don’t redeem their loyalty points and this is why I believe statistics showing that almost 78% of customers don’t use their loyalty points.

Today is an exciting day, I’m glad of the technological advancement that is helping businesses optimize their operations, one of this technology is blockchain technology – Blockchain technology will be able to unify the loyalty programs across multiple businesses allowing a customer to accumulate loyalty points from multiple businesses and redeem them as one.
