Imo the future is in a electric/ hydrogen hybrid, we already got the gas plants to store liquid hydrogen, it would be a lot quicker to fill the tank with hydrogen then with electricity... and since hydrogen would, in the end, be producing electricity, the dual function would enable one to also have a battery to charge at home for short distance travel....
