RE: Future Update: AI and Robots Replacing Human Workers at an Astounding Rate!
I have often thought about this subject of jobs disappearing through automation, and now even middle-upper class jobs are at risk of disappearing because of blockchain. Who needs accountants, administrative and finance employees, notaries or even CEO's in the age of blockchain and DAO's?
If we give technology enough time, there's not much we can't automate away. The only jobs for humans that I can foresee in the far, distant future would be in the fields of:
- Policy/Decisionmaking/Responsability
- Entertainment (humor, creativity, art, etc.)
- Possibly science in some delegatory way (arguably this falls under decisionmaking)
- Possibly psychology
So basically if you're not interested in politics or invention, the only thing left for humans to create of value to others would be in the field of entertainment because that's where AI would fall short. It's hard to imagine an AI will ever be able to create something truly creative, or understand the deeper facets of being human, required for humor or perhaps drama. It's an attention-based economy where we appear to be headed; the value is in your attention as a consumer.
Maybe in the future, we'll all be bloggers and youtubers. In a way that sounds fun. On the other side, it sounds terrifying: if the only value that we can add is to entertain others, does it mean that we have advanced into a high-tech society of clowns, essentially?
Very good points made here. I also feel that art / creative efforts will be the most difficult niche for AI to break into. A society of clowns indeed! You've left many thought provoking ideas in this well written and inspirational comment. Thanks for your input as always @pandorasbox!
@pandorasbox - I'd agree with most of your points, however when it comes to entertainment there are already some bots that can do what humans can do like writing poems and composing new music. And the best part is when people are put to a blind test, they weren't able to identify the one composed by bots.
I'm sure you must have seen this video Humans Need Not Apply Watch it at the 12th minute where it talks about creativity, poems, music etc.
@techblogger - I agree it's difficult but they are already making huge progress in this domain as well.
It's a fascinating future ahead.
What do you think?
