Racing in the future

I'm not exactly the biggest fan of F1 or IndyCar (I love NASCAR though) but I overheard on the radio that in 2040, no cars that use gasoline or petrol will be produced.

That got me thinking, how will this effect motorsport if cars cannot use petrol?
Formula-E will not be effected but every other form will be, even motorbike racing.
