Big Upset In Womens Futsal

in #futsal6 years ago

Two big upsets marked the weekend for the WSFL, the premier women's futsal competition in Western Australia. Wins to new entrants Cockburn EWA and South Perth have cast doubt on the title race.

It was all supposed to be easy for Stirling Braza Women. The Series Futsal Australia Champions were expected to run over South Perth in Round three but it was in fact the opposite, as South Perth came on strong in the closing minutes of the second half to record an epic 6-3 victory of their much more fancie opponents.

Stirling, who have had rumours of in fighting and unpleasantries plague them for much of the off season, controversially lost star player Antonia Jukic to Perth AFC as they themselves recorded a good win over Fremantle Futsal Club.

Without Jukic and star player Ella Mastrantonio, Mariana Tabain also, Stirling could not rally and, to the delight o the South Perth fans, fell away in the last part of the match.

So with wins to Cockburn over last seasons Gand Finalists Cambio Cumbre and an upset victory to South Perth over former Champions Stirling Futsal Club it is anybody's guess as to who will make the playoffs this season.

South Perth did not fair as well in the mens though, going down 4-1 to a strong Stirling side still reeling from losing Alek Kukic, Stephan Eriksson and Sergio Coelho in the transfer window.
