Professor presents TED talk on the importance of creativity, disruption, and innovation. Receives standing ovation.
SAN FRANCISCO- Professor Yohan Carmichael is encouraging entrepreneurs to be more creative, disruptive, and innovative. The professor gave a presentation at TED X: San Francisco to an auditorium filled with academics, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and executives.
"Leadership needs more innovative people. I challenge everyone to be creative. If we cannot be creative, we cannot innovate. If we cannot innovate, how can we disrupt?" Carmichael continued, "My research leads me to believe that being creative is really important."
Carmichael, 62, opened his 10 minute talk with a story about a company that disrupted the communications industry. The company was founded by a man that pushed his products to be centered around innovation, and disruption. That man was Steve Jobs. The product was the iPhone.
"Steve Jobs was a disruptor. The iPhone changed lives. I am presenting my findings with utter disbelief."
To the skeptics in the room, Carmichael presented numbers and charts that supported his carefully constructed hypothesis.
"Ten years ago, we did not have the technology we have today. I predict that ten years from now, we will have technology that we do not have today."
The TED talk is generating buzz in both the private and public sectors.
