In fact, the use of parentheses in the writing of mathematical expressions causes misunderstanding of this problem. It was probably used as a simple trick to confuse people's heads.

Normally,

6 ÷ 2 (1 + 2) expressions must be confused and there are two different results, 1 or 9.
In order to correctly interpret and reach the solution,

6 ÷ [2 (1 + 2)] =?
(6 ÷ 2) (1 + 2) =?

two different spelling can be adopted. The result of the first operation is 1 according to the basic rules, and the result of the second operation is 9 according to the basic rules.

So the only reason people go into each other and debate on this question is the problem of the writing itself.

On Google and Microsoft's calculators, this will give a result of 9 because it refers to the second of the above corrections. But since it is beyond discussion software, it will be enough to fix the root of the problem.
