Rory Mcllroy shocks golfing world with strange request. (Jim Shorts reports)

In a surprise move, Rory Mcllroy has asked that the prize money and endorsements earned by golfers be dramatically decreased.*

Although it is true that one needs to read between the lines in order to see Mcllroy's plot, it was fairly obvious.

Instead of flat out saying "I think golfers are making too much money" he cunningly disguised his opinion by stating that, " I think that they need to limit alcohol sales on the course" (from ESPN).

Obviously Rory knows that the dramatic increase in golfers' earnings is directly related to the increase in fans' attention over the past 20 years. He also knows that sports fans like to drink. So by suggesting that they not be allowed to drink, he was really saying that he wished professional golf was less popular and lucrative.

Only an idiot would think that golfers could be paid like real athletes and not have to endure some of the down side of that popularity.

*No one would be dumb enough to actually ask for this on purpose. Mcllroy never actually said this. He just thinks he can have his cake and eat it too.
