QB scores most points ever on single play!(Jim Shorts Reports)

in #funny7 years ago

The greatest play in the history of the NFL occurred earlier today. At least that is what fantasy football fans are saying. Actually, "fantasy Football Fans" is kind of redundant. I'm pretty sure fantasy football players are the only people actually still watching NFL games.

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota just compiled the most points ever on any single passing play in the past 20 years.

That's right,

Mariota legally completed a touchdown pass to himself!

In most fantasy leagues, that play netted Mariota owners a cool 10 points. He earned 4 for the pass and 6 for the catch. The play did not cover enough years for Mariota to earn any more points for receiving yards. However, If he completes another pass to himself for more than 5 years, he will get at least 1 point for that.

Usually the maximum a QB can earn a single passing play is 7 points: 4 points for the TD and 3 points for yardage (even if it covers 99 yards).

Actually if he passed to himself for a 99 yard TD he could earn a total of 22 points! (4 Passing TD + 3 Passing Yards + 6 Receiving TD + 9 receiving yards = 22). Wow! I am a bigger nerd than I have ever feared.

This is a feat that has only occurred one other time when Minnesota's Brad Johnson accomplished the same thing. However, nobody really gave a shit about that because Fantasy Football was only a million dollar business back then, not the billion dollar one it is now.

Not surprisingly, the celebration did not last long as the receiver Marcus Mariota began to argue with the QB Marcus Mariota for not passing the ball to him 8 other times when Mariota claimed to be "so damn open".

Here is footage of the resulting altercation:
