Story Time: Dancing Fails
I love to dance. When I was little I used to do all kinds of dancing competitions and exams. My older sister Theresa danced with me and for the most part was on the same level as me even though I was 5 years younger.
Needless to say dancing came natural to me. Unfortunately balance did not. The thing is that during practice and training before competition or exams. I never did anything wrong. Never fell. Was always as close to perfect as I could manage. I am happy to say that fortunately I wasn't the first one in my family to have a dancing fail in front of judges.
First was my sister. It had been our very first solo latin competition. Our numbers were called and we were going to dance against each other... Great right? She had hit puberty and had hips to swing that I at this stage in life did not posses. We went up, took our places and started dancing. The floor was really slippery and during the jive my sister took a slide underneath the judges table all the way to the other side. She recovered nicely and danced her way back to the rest of the group. A mistake that caused her to win the gold metal.
This also caused the judges to find a new location for the next competition. If anyone fell, they would fall off the stage into the crowd instead of underneath the judges. This didn't help them much though. Exams rolled by and little did I know that it would be my turn to fall...
I was waiting outside of the studio for my turn to take the exam. Obviously nervous however my outfit and posture was on point and I was practicing my hip movements. Then my number was called. I entered (there is nothing more intimidating than being alone with a room full of judges watching everything you do. I started with the rumba our general warm up and nailed it. Next was the cha- cha. I knew I had this as it was the one dance I could do that always seemed to impress the judges. One by one we went through the dances and last on the list was the Jive... The powder on my shoes to stop me from slipping had worn down which I hadn't noticed until I was moving forward and taking my sister's example slid all the way underneath the table. I got up and danced again however because this was an exam I lost points for that fall. I did manage to increase to the next level, but that humiliation stayed with me forever.
Fortunately you tube loves dancing fails so right now I don't feel to bad about my fall. Enjoy.
I ended up having a lot more fails in life. Fortunately there is to my knowledge no video proof :)
