(WARNING) People With A Phobia of Birds... LOOK AWAY NOW!!
Yesterday, I decided to visit the beautiful St. James's Park in Central London. Maybe you guys have heard we're having somewhat of a "mild" summer, but things seem to have turned. While walking along the path, I took a few snaps of the some cute pigeons sitting a small, bare tree, taking in the atmosphere too.
I've always thought of pigeons as a poor, disregarded creature of London, having the stigma of vermin attached to their species, so it was a pleasant sight. Anyhow, a little further along, I noticed 3 boys feeding a group of them on a bench with some birdseed. How sweet, people who actually have time to give these guys some much needed attention.
They saw me watching and then surprisingly asked if I wanted to have a go feeding them too! Well, how could I resist, especially given how peaceful they looked sitting in that tree a short while ago and now here, quietly eating away. So one of the boys got up, came to me and poured some seed into my hand. That was when things started to change! A few ascended into my outstretched hand and started frantically gobbling the seed. I began to worry as they were digging their claws into my hand arm and hand, but still tried to remain composed.
Then, the PAIN SET IN! They started going wild, flapping their wings, pecking at my flesh and now I became their feeding tree! Hang on, these are WILD, VICIOUS FEATHERED BEASTS, what was I thinking? I was panicking while my husband was taking snaps and thinking the whole thing was HILARIOUS! I threw the rest of the seed in the air and ran. They descended upon the remaining snack and disappeared into the flock. It was one of the scariest moments I can remember in a long while!
Later that evening, when I eventually started speaking to my husband, he told me the whole ordeal lasted about 30 seconds long, I but could have sworn it was several minutes. I had a few scratches and nicks from the "attack", but I'll live. May never look at birds the same way again and after that experience, I will always be keeping an eye out in case that same flock recognises me and wants to to finish the rest of their meal!
