Simone Giertz: The Queen of Shitty Robots
In the last post, I wrote about robots in cooking, and most of the models, in essence, are the robotic hands. When you look at them in action, it may seem that this is not a big breakthrough. Robots just have good motor skills and accurately perform embedded algorithm- Sounds easier than it really is.
When I were searching for images and gifs for my post, I came across a number of videos with not so "successful" projects, and I learned about one interesting girl from Stockholm:

Simone Giertz is editor of the online magazine "Motherboard", and she has her own approach to robotics, she is the Queen of shitty robots.
Simone says that science and technology attracted her since childhood, but she failed to obtain a specialized education (in KTH Royal Institute of Technology), because the lectures were too boring and she always fell asleep.
One day Simone decided to buy a robotic arm to teach it to cook a breakfast: pour the cereal, cover them with milk and feed the user with a spoon. She spend 339 dollars on robot and actively started to improve her programming skills in this area. But something went wrong...

After 3 hours the final programming she didn't achieve visible results. Then, Simone found out that this model can be taught through the recording of user movements! In the end she got this:

After this experiment, Simone purposefully began to create her own wacky robots. She comes up with for robots tasks, collects them from cheap parts and programs. In her track record is already quite a lot of models with a similar principle, but with different functionality.

this one looks like working :)

hair-washing-bot

robot alarm clock

All these robots are designed to facilitate human life, but they are not very good at it, anyway they are excellent fun! You can see more on her official YouTube channel.
Simone says she wants to encourage ordinary people, especially girls, to study electronics, and believes that humor is one of the best ways to achieve this goal. I totally agree with this :)

Alarm clock is my fav!
My fav is bartender-very brutal :)
I had so much fun with the videos :)
i'm glad that you liked it :) I took a little "break" from serious articles :)
